I have just ordered some 17s to replace my 16s. I asked a similar question some time ago and there is really no black and white answer and people tend to differ in opinion out of personal preference.

I've done thousands of miles on 17's and 18's and the handling is the same to me.
If you are a driver who does plenty of track days then you may prefer one or the other. An average Joe like me doesn't

I think the 17's will look fine on a slightly lowered classic!

thinking of changing mine.I have a type r,in rb grey.
i have buddy club p1's in grey on it,but i got a set of brembo's
off a 02 sti and they wont fit is there a 17" wheel that will??????

Really down to preference and 17in tyres are a bit cheaper,bought 18in for mine and lowered car 40mm as like the arches filled and im after some big discs/calipers for the front soon and 18`s leave you with more space.
