Default 17s or 18s?

I'm thinking of getting some alloys to replace the standard 16s that are on. What would people suggest, 17s or 18s?

17's all the way mate.

18's may look better and people may argue but 17's have the handling edge

I have just ordered some 17s to replace my 16s. I asked a similar question some time ago and there is really no black and white answer and people tend to differ in opinion out of personal preference.

This thread maybe of help

17's on a classic, 18's on a new age. Perfect compromise between the bling factor and the handling factor.

I've done thousands of miles on 17's and 18's and the handling is the same to me.
If you are a driver who does plenty of track days then you may prefer one or the other. An average Joe like me doesn't

......Scrub all that. The 18's are far better as they fill out the arches

I think the 17's will look fine on a slightly lowered classic!

Really down to preference and 17in tyres are a bit cheaper, bought 18in for mine and lowered car 40mm as like the arches filled and im after some big discs/calipers for the front soon and 18`s leave you with more space.

18s look the best but are prone to kerbing more than the 17s,ive had both on the same car and noticed no difference in the handling division..

I agree, buy tyres with rim protectors when using 18s as I didn't and kerb mine last week . With the correct profile tyres on 18s (215 35 18), handling will not be affected to point at which you will notice.
Picture of my 18s on a classic lowered.

rim protectors? is that where the tyrewall on the inner edge sort of comes out a little to look wider, as to protect somewhat against kerbs etc?

indeed, it is a "lip" on the tyre wall which protects the alloy... hopefully! Toyo T1R's have this!
