Piston slap again!!!!!!!!!!!!!
#1
Now that the cold mornings are here to stay ,i've noticed the dreaded piston slap once more, why should this reappear after having a new short engine fitted due to the same thing in feb 2000 and only doing 5000 miles? i thought subaru had sorted the problem and modified the engine. The other little problem also is the warranty has expired so what do i do (just done a letter this morning to subaru have to wait see if i'll get a reply)
any help would be appreciated,
simon

Mine seems to be doing the same, had the piston replaced in March this year and have done 4000 miles since, now out of warrenty and sounds like its slapping away again. I have'nt spoke with the dealer yet, as it took 4 months to get IM to fix the problem in the first place.

Just listened to AJ's MP3 tracks.
I've not got sounds like these, but, mine sounds more like a tappet on a 1987 Fiesta. It only occurs occasionally when cold, and, if I pull over, switch off ignition and then re-start, the tapping goes away and the motor's as sweet as a nut again.
Mines an MY95 Sport so pre-piston slap era I think.
Any ideas what it might be?
