Default to p1 or not to p1

currently got a silver 95 wrx import which runs perfectly (touch wood) 280bhp lowered, alloys etc but have always aspired to the legendary p1. one has now turned up at a local subaru garage for £15k, assuming i could get approx £6k for mine it would mean an additional £9k to upgrade (its an x reg). it would probably come with limited warranty and be fully serviced if it comes from a subaru dealer and have maybe average mileage.
do you think it would be a beneficial upgrade?
do these have dccd like type r and what bhp do they have?
comments greatly appreciated

They have 280ps (276bhp) and approx 260lbs of torque.
They dont have the dccd but do have abs (which classic dccd equipped cars didnt have because of the dccd).
Yes if you wanted to go that way then it would be a good idea, note that they have a jdm map on their ecu so you can only run these on 97+ fuel.
Is it a worthwhile upgrade? a type r may suit you better, best to drive both and see which one you like best (you get better equipment in the type r )

In todays market you would do well to get 6k for a 95'classic in any shape of form but fairplay if you do fella

My thoughts exactly. I was offered 5 grand for my MY99 against a P1 earlier in the year.

P1 at 15k is way overpriced, and definitely not worth paying 9k on top your car for.

You should be able to pick a P1 up for around £11k, dealers always up the price by way too much.

TBH Robin I think the P1 is only coveted because of the image. It is not really superior to late model STI classics IMHO.

yep £6k is probably a bit high (more like a lucky £5k) and so is the £15k but the dealer warranty/service must be worth a few quid along with peace of mind of coming from a reputable company.
type r would be a cheaper way to go for similar but it doesnt have the same iconic status-does it?
please dont even mention a new/newer model shape cos its classic style only for me

Afraid iconic status only comes with the 22B mate.

I had a P1 until it suffered a gearbox problem. I traded it in whilst it was getting fixed (under warranty). After the deal was done on my new STI the dealer told me that most P1s come back for engine/gearbox work and this in turn reflects the price on used P1s to cover warranty cost. The P1 was a great car and in no way am I trying to put you off buying one.

Litchfield imports had a couple of really good P1s for about 12 grand apiece earlier in the year. Your 95 is worth about 2.5 t0 3 grand trade in on a P1 at that price.

IMO, of course.

When I read £6,000 I honestly thought that this was a resurrected thread; originally started in 2003!

You mean you would only 'want' to run these on 97+, not you can 'only' run these on 97+......

.....que broquet thread.

I did chuckle to myself recently when I read my old P1 brochure clearly stating 95 RON, which is what I used without any problems......I wonder who has mine now

Litchfields have two in stock, one £12.5, one 9.5k...the former ex-Prodrive car.

Cool

all depends on the condition, if your gonna buy one make sure the millage is low!! bought mine in may with 25K on the clock, not a chip on the paint but it did have lexus lights! :-(

still got ripped off cause i bought it from the dealer.

have a look on the owners club, usually a few for sale there.

P1 Web Owners Club :: Warning, may contain nuts!

here's mine, just for a quick fix! lol!
