dont really know how to explain this one,but here goes !

i have a 2003 sti,if i lift the clutch to reverse with little or no accelarator action, i get a dull rattle around the steering wheel/foot well area,i also get the same dull rattle when i turn off the ignition

anyone got any bright ideas where to start looking for the cause ?

With the classics a fairly common rattle was from the heat shield. Don't know about the later cars.
