that is absolutely grotesque. I just sincerely hope that this doesn't further destroy the Subaru brand by cheapafying it further. (we already have the Neds doing that)

You should be relieved - there is no way Fuji HI were going to stay in business selling £20K supercars to 0.2% of the population in a 'supercar' saturated market. This is called 'the times they are a changin'.
At least this way they can make bread and butter cars for the masses and keep you guys happy with a little amber nectar....
Another FASTER more POWERFUL Impreza IS not going to save the company when it can't sell the one's it's making now ? ?
This should be regarded as good news and should hopefully mean Subaru don't have to pull out of the UK like Alfa did in the eighties....
BTW- FYI - Subaru UK new car registrations last month were about 300 cars - would have been about 100 without the free fuel promo...Ford and Vauxhall together were about 30,000!!...

What on earth are you lot on about
Subaru have ALWAYS made Shopping variety Imprezas. Nothing has changed.
Impreza 1.6GL ...anyone have one of those as a courtesey car? I know I had many when my car was constantly in for warrantee work with new engines, clutches etc etc.
And it was a horrible car to drive, I can't imagine how any car manufacturer could use such a flimsy wobbly chassis as a basis for a turbo-charged sports car (but then, I suppose Ford did, as did Renault amongst others).
On the flip side I noticed a brand new shape Impreza 2.0GS (I think - I didn't look at the badge) and it looked quite nice. The car looked far less ugly without the bonnet scoop, Turbo front grill/bumper, large rear spoiler and gold wheels. I'd even go as far to say I liked it. The bodykit and bolt on bits on the current Turbos just doesn't suit the styling of the current cars, which is a contrast to the old classic shape cars which made a bland car look more purposeful, on the current car it just makes it look more worthy of tackling the local drive-thru.

A lot of rubbish being posted here IMO, what's wrong with a manufacturer making a bread and butter run around, it's what Subaru have based their brand on for years, the sporty cars are a recent thing.

The 1.6/1.5 engined 2wd versions have been in production almost throughout the model's life, but International Motors decided to stop importing them in the later years, even though it was still being produced in Japan.

Having worked in car sales at both Vauxhall and Mitsubishi I would say you cannot compare mainstream manufacturer's results with those of niche markets. At least at Mitsu we had L200 pick-ups to make up some ground as Evo sales were a very small % of total sales.
A fairer comparison would be to see how many VX220's and VXR Monaro's Vauxhall have sold... From experience I would say Impreza sales were higher.

Just seen a piccie in AutoExpress of the Imprezza hatch - Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo, what have they done ? Presumably they've researched it to death but they clearly cannot have asked existing Scoob owners why they buy the car. Performance is one thing but looks are just as important.
Also disappointed to see that the Scoob didn't make in AutoExpress 20 biggest performance car test of the year.

Subaru's problem is that figure should be 30,000 NOT 300!!...
This is why Subaru is always in a multi-dealer franchise scenario with other such glorious notables as Kia, Hyundai, Tata, Proton cos it's volume can not support a single dealer franchise.
Mitsubishi is not even comparable to Subaru...they have a lot of good cars...Subaru has ONE and it's not currently selling!!
Seriously this kind of 'everyday' car *may* mean the WRX/STI has a future in this country.
You should look on it as a GOOD THING!.

If IM need to shift more metal so be it. It might be the dealers needing this for them to stay on board. Expand the customer base and some customers may move onto Turbos later. That spec might suit some who live and work in remoter areas and for whom AWD is useful but who don't want or need the larger 4x4s.
We were in New Zealand in August and there were far more N/A Imprezas on the roads than Turbos. Many Jap imports of course.
In some ways I'd like a Turbo that looked totally plain and not obviously a performance car. A true Q car if you like.
