Might be SIAL but any new member that comes on here must get scared off with all the talk of engine rebuilds.
I wonder how many are build issues and how many are modding issues....

Wouldn't touch a car that had anything rebuilt.
Rebuild's tell me the car has had a hard life. Why would I want to take the risk of BIG bills later on?

I'm with the Chief on this one. I was going to buy a car with 30k on the clock that had a rebuilt engine and gearbox with a new clutch. The engine had suffered a big end failure due to a dodgy maf sensor but after being rebuilt was one of the quietest classics I have heard and with a new clutch and rebuilt gearbox with new second gear and new synchros the gearchange was like a new car. I didn't buy it because I ended up going for a newage car, but the fact that it had loads of work done wasn't an issue.
In answer to the poll I have had 3 cars in the past 5 years:
94 wrx with full decat exhaust, 90k miles when I sold it, original engine, no problems
98 sti with full decat exhaust, 80k miles when I sold it, original engine, no problems
01 sti with full decat exhaust, panel filter, walbro fuel pump, mapped to 1.45bar, 53k now on original engine, no problems.
I have always had the car serviced on schedule, changed the oil myself in between services using good oils and a subaru filter, always used the highest octane fuel available at the time with octane boosters where needed, had a knocklink fitted and kept away from the red line.

Please correct me if im wrong but the optimum point to change gear to achieve the quickest acceleration is at 5.25K RPM in subaru's.
Although i have never seen this written in stone, it is the answer that has resulted from other discussions of this nature on Scoobynet.

Having a rebuild on a classic my00 at the moment. Will be doing some mods to it when the engine is fully run in. Personally I'd have a car with a rebuilt engine over a non rebuilt engined car anyday, on the proviso that the work was carried out by a reputable garage.
Of the now 5 Imprezas this is the only one that's needed a rebuild, and I haven't even turned the wheel in this one yet.
The 22b I had needed a rebuild several months after I sold it apparently, but I rarely (if ever) spanked the engine.

had my standard MY05 WRX PPP done when it was 3 months old, never been right since despite various attempts to rectify the problem
all done by the dealer, and from a independant specialist, its been very poor workmanship every time

As per BOB - note this will also change if it's remapped ~ Mine is 6000 revs.
Not much of a red-liner myself. Did it a fair bit on my rev-happy Prelude V-tec
2.2, but I don't find much need for it with 273 bhp on tap.
