Default Halfords trackday oil...

Was in Halfords today looking for some crap advice and shocking customer service, and came across their own brand 5w50 fully synthetic oil designed for "track days and enthusiastic driving". It's been reduced to £15.99.....so I bought some.

I had been thinking of changing to a 5w50 anyway seeing as there's a cold Scottish winter lurking round the corner, and thought this seemed like a bargain.

The car currently runs 10w60 Millers fully synthetic, but this is due a change.

Seeing as it's fully synthetic, and will only cover around 3000 miles before being changed again, I can't see a problem with using this, other than it doesn't cost the usual £30+ and have a fancy name. It even has a picture of an impreza type r on the front?

Car in question is a 1997 sti version 3 - standard, and is driven "enthusiastically", however will never see a track.

What are your views?

P.S. yes I know it's another bloody oil thread, but please, humour me.

I use silkolene pro s and change it every 10k, that costs me £45.
You would make 3 changes of halfords stuff in this time, 3x£16 = £48.

I'd rather stick with my siloklene cos it's cheaper

Ok, I would use a high quailty oil for 10k. Rather than cheap oil for 3k and all the hassle of oil changes.
But this halfords stuff could be good oil. who knows, cos we have no data to go on yet.
Cue for oilman and pslewis.

Well, whether I'm buying silkolene or millers at £45 or £30, or Halfords at £15.99 - they'll still get changed at around 3000 miles, so in that sense cost is irrelevant.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not one of the anti-name brand oil brigade, as it's usually the expensive stuff I use, I just wanted to see what peoples thought's were on this Halfords stuff. It's usual price is £31.99, however at this price, I would stick with millers.

What do you do to your car that requires 3k oil changes?
Trackdays every week?

After a £2k rebuild and all the hassle that went along with it, an oil change every 3 months doesn't seem too extreme to me.

wouldn't personally use a 5w oil in a classic, unless you live in an extreme climate.................i.e. not the UK

Oh how I hate hate oil threads.
After much research and heartache I made my choice yet every new thread on the subject makes me wonder about that decision.
The thing is still going though but sometimes I think, how much longer?
It's a weird weird world this Scooby one.

I agree, oil threads, generally, are a pain in the **** and I feel we should have a sticky on it (unlikely as it is that Newbie's will find it, what with the current trend of not even being able to find the "for sale" section when they join up to pimp their wares) - however, moving away from the usual "what grade of oil should I put in my car?", I'm asking for people's opinions on what is a new product from Halfords, and whether they consider it a good buy at the current discounted price.

Vegescoob, it's unfortunate that you find the thread so irksome, however you've taken the time to add to it, however unproductively, so it must have been worth a read at least?

That, you see, is my burden, I always read oil threads whether here or in Technical and concerning engine, transmission or rear diff.
Indeed I must be ****.

Btw, what's the spec on this oil?
