Just found this beastie on my lawn - it is huge about 8 cms wingspan (although it is on its last legs now )

Anyone know anything about moths?

Found this thing a week back:

For an idea of scale the tile edging is about 80mm.

Quite a docile thing, wasn't too fussed about me poking it or when I shifted the wire

I can't find an exact match for either of these in my Moth guide. I suppose there are hundreds of types.

Ta, know what it is now

And excuse me putting 80cm instead of 80mm....that would have been one huge moth

Aha, well identified! I'll raise you a Six-Spot Burnet....though I think these are quite common.

Found this headbutting the light in the bathroom last night:

I belive its a Swallow-tailed Moth http://ukmoths.org.uk/show.php?id=100&bf=1922

And if any camera enthustaists needed to know...it was took with a SE W800i with Macro on and resized before posting.
