Semi - synthetic of Fully
i have a MY05 WRX PPP and nearly due it 10,000 mile service how much roughly does this cost and do subaru make you stick to semi synthetic oil throughout the car's life or at some point do they change to fully synthetic
i had a MY95 WRX Jap import previously and ran that on Silkolene for a few years and never had any probs with that!

Dealers usually use Shell Helix which IIRC is a semi, and will charge between £110-150. Nothing to stop you supplying your own preferred oil, as long as it is considered of equal or better quality than what they recommend. Then again, there's nothing to stop you going to a cheaper garage for the work doing either, as long as they're VAT registered, carry out all the work specified in the service schedule and use OE parts or better. I like Silkolene ProS and Millers CFS, both in 5W40 variety.

Just a quick check over all the other fluids and a poke around. Some of the more unscrupulous dealers will top-up your bill with things like screenwash for 10x what it would cost you to do, so check as many things as possible before it goes in and top them up yourself.

I know what you're saying, but with dealer labour rates at about £80/hour, plus at least £25 of oil (nearer £40 for a good synth) and another £6 for a filter and washer you can see where it adds up. Even Scoobyclinic charge £85+vat for an oil change with Silko ProS. Unfortunately, if you want the rubber stamp you have to pay someone, otherwise it's a simple DIY job. I've always done my own 5k interim's, and have found a good local garage who don't fleece me for the other work. Ask around in the forum for your area for garages that other people recommend.

I recently had an oil change at a Subaru dealer.
54EURO for the oil
45EURO for Labour
8EURO for oil Filter
13% VAT
I think that comes out at 120EURO for an oil change. That sound right?

When I had the first service at the dealers (500 miles?) the oil change was Castrol Magnatex 5w 30, and it cost £34 + Vat. Seems cheap, but not as cheap as 4.5lt for £29 at the local garage....
Buy your own and supply it.
