Default SHELL OPTIMAX(98ron or 99.5 ron)

Was speaking to guy i know and he mentioned that optimax was going up to 99.5 ron shortly: my nearest garage has just suddenly closed so i phoned them to find out why: bloody car garage has bought it, nearest garage 5 miles away now:Anyway while on phone i phoned tech services to enquire about fuel and they denied any knowledge of increaseing ron.So just to let you all know for the immeadiate future its staying put at 98

When Optimax was first advertised, it was quoted as being 98.4Ron MINIMUM.
They couldn't advertise it as 99RON as it may not always achieve that level, but the newspaper articles said that Shell claimed that it could often be 99Ron.

Our V-Power is 100 ron and our Ultimate is 100 ron it seems fecking stupid that they don't sell the same stuff in the UK.

An article from Telegraph motoring pages in 2004, references Shell normal unleaded as being 95.6RON against the industry average of 95.2RON, and Optimax as being 98.6RON.

I cannot find the original article which stated that it would often be at 99RON, and only fall to 98.4RON minimum.

Maybe because all SUL has to meet the same British Standard (BS7800) which tightly controls what goes into the mix and doesn't apply abroad.
