I've just got my car back from these guys after a bit of work:

simon_prickett and I dropped them in for:

Me to have his Scoobysport centre
Him to have my Magnex centre (with res)
Me to have HKS Downpipe
Him to have boost gauge

This was my fourth visit. Apparently the downpipe was a bitch (they sent me the two sheared bolts) and eventually they removed the turbo in case it got damaged. The result is worth it though (turbo back on now ).

I think that Mr. Prickett would agree with me that we have had good service from these guys and would recommend them to people in the Southampton area.

Cool

Yeah they fitted my nitrous kit to my astra in two days. I had to take their comedy loan car that wouldnt go over 50mph without shaking itself to pieces! The car was baaaaaad, but the service was good!! Chris is a real enthusiast and loves his work.
Recomended.

We were joking about the loan car as well. My theory is that it's a test/donor vehicle for internal projects.

Mind you Chris has just purchased a rather nice Astra Coupe Turbo that they're planning to 'tune up'. Should be interesting going on what he had before!

Laurence
PS I thought the downpipe was good b4, did the ECU reset today and now ... WOW!!!

Thumbs up

I'll second that, I've had the following done at Regal in two visits, and am very pleased:

First time:

Replace all the pads with Pagids
Replace all the brake hoses with Goodrich braided
Replace brake fluid with dot 5.1

then second time out:

Supply pod and fit boost gauge
Fit Magnex centre

No problems at all, they always seem happy to see us, and they're pretty close to where I work, so no having to go out of my way.

Next up for me is replacement front discs... but not this month, just bought a cot for future son!

Wink

You should have taken your car to Tremona Garage.
No need to take the turbo off to fit a downpipe and no sheared off nuts.
If you will not take my word for it then talk to Len,he has just had his downpipe fitted and is very pleased.
Cheers Paul.

I agree that whatever the post, someone will have bad against good. One thing to note though, the good story is always first hand (my car) the bad is always third person (my mate).

As far as I'm concerned so far Regal have:

Fitted my FATT Turbo Timer
Fitted the A-Pillar boost gauge
Fitted new Pagid pads
Fitted the Eibach spring kit
Fitted my downpipe
Colour coded (not fitted yet) some P1 spots for me
Fitted HKS downpipe and Scoobysport centre
Fitted HKS SPF induction kit

The quality of the work has been great. When there was a problem (as with the downpipe), they did the work then discounted it for me. The reason for removing part of the turbo was that they didn't want to take any risks when removing the sheared bold from the old downpipe as that could be goodbye turbo. Doing a search on Scoobynet shows that this is a common issue anyway when replacing the downpipe. They only charged me for the downpipe fitting, not the time spent sorting the problem, they also discounted the cost of the downpipe over the original quote making it £30 cheaper than I could get it anywhere else.

I have to admit that for something really Jap-specialised (boost-controller, ECU upgrade etc) I would go to a slightly more Impreza'y' tuner but for the general type 'any car could have this' upgrades they have been great.

If you ever pay them a visit, just the number of cars in the garage must say something. They have a number of regular Impreza's (both UK and Import) as well as a couple of EVO's and loads of Vauxhalls as regular customers.

The next project for them will be to fit uprated disks and hoses prior to a full gauge kit. After that as I said it's off to a Scooby specialist for some electronic upgrades.

Exclamation

I know of someone who has nothing but horror stories about them! There's always one isn't there!

Have a chat with IanW who lives mainly in the Muppet Forum!

I can not comment about them or their work, as I haven't used them!

Cheers

Heard nothing but bad things about them. Laughed my head off when a chap in his RS Turbo brought his car down To Tremona Garage in Southampton after not being happy with regal. The poor lad was having boosting problems and was told by regal that it needed a new chip and a stack of other bits. After Richard at Tremona had a look it turned out that the Turbo had come loose which is common fault on RS Turbo's.

Anyway I can highly recommend Tremona Garage, have yet to hear any complaints, thier number is 023 80775829

I haven't heard of Tremona before, what kind of work do they do? Is it the same kind of business as Regal? And finally where are they?

Tremona Garage is a family run business that has been going for over 25 Years now. They do all kinds of work from servicing a mini metro to full engine re-builds. They are the only other garage that I let near my 550Bhp Escort Cossie apart from SCS in Peterborough.

Basically they do exactly what you ask them to do without all the bullsh!t.

Cool

Look, I didn't mean to open a can of worms when starting this thread. I have used Regal for a number of mods to my car recently and been very pleased witht the result.

In each case I have researched the modification (using Scoobynet and 22b.com as reference) then contacted them to ask for the work to be done. In each case the parts have been in on time and fitted as requested.

Addmittedly there have been a couple of problems:

1.. After the FATT my alarm stopped remote locking. They called in a mobile alarm engineer who diagnosed (and showed me) that the alarm control unit had only been attached with a Velcro pad by the installer (professional or what?) the pad had come unattached and caused the connector for the locking to come out of the unit. Fixed in about 10 minutes, they paid for the callout as well!
2.. After the bolts sheared on the downpipe install they got very careful. This meant the job took nearly all day to complete (I wasn't charged this amount!). They then contacted me before starting on the fitting of my P1 Spots to say that they may not be able to finish up rather than starting and not being able to complete. Bearing in mind that a certain main dealer left me with a plastic bag as a seat cover for the Recaro on my MKIV Golf GTi because they ran out of time I was happy with that.

As I said previously, everyone has a negative story (or knows someone with one) for every dealer. I wanted to start a positive thread for some work that I was please with, can anyone else add to this?

Sorry mate looks like you HAVE opened a can of worms!
I have never been to Regal and quite frankly never will.I have been using Tremona for nearly 10 years and have never had any problems.Malcolm and his son Richard are always helpful and the work done is always to a high standard.
Just visit the workshop and you will see what we are all saying.
See you at the pub meet Laurence.
Cheers Paul.

I've had a few things done as mentioned before in this thread, I'm happy, end of story as far as I'm concerned.

Now, if I was going to have internal engine work or something like that done, I'd go to an Impreza specialist, but for replacing consumables and straightforward mods I'm happy.

Can we put this one to bed now?

See you in the pub on the 12th.

Simon.

Thanks Simon,

They've done basics on my car, for the specialist bits I will use a Scooby specialist. I'm happy with the work, end of story.

'nuff said.

See you all on the 12th!
