Talking

Just had a thought...

Is any body who's attending the Rally GB going to be using CB radio for interScooby communication?

I know it's hardly at the pinnacle of technology these days, but a good way to pass on traffic info/sightings/general chit chat whilst were all stuck in huge traffic jams around South Wales!!
Perhaps any users could utilise their Scoobynet ID, so we know who we're talking to.

Chandler,

As far as I know, all teams seem to change frequencies each year.I think you will find, though, that they all re-appear in a similar frequency range together.
Certain other ranges seem to remain unchanged for the non factory stuff.
I have been using a scanner for the past few years, and it's never easy to 'home-in' on the big boys.Last year , I watched the scrutineering, which made it a little easier as you knew when they were doing radio checks.

Perhaps there might be some 'insiders' on the BBS who could help us out here with what will be used this year.

Anyone prepared to let us in on the act??

As an add to my previous post, if there are a few people using CB, we should have a designated Scoobynet channel?

Cheers
Steve

Chandler,

I will try to dig out the information tonight and reply via this post. The list I have is quite long and it will show frequencies used in previous years as well.

As I am not too much of a computer techie, does anybody know if I can attach a document to my thread? If not I could possibly e-mail it to you.

BTW which part of Manchester are you?

Cheers
Steve

SPJ, easiest thing is just to cut and paste into the Reply box, although if its tabulated it doesn't always work too well

Chandler,

I can't get to that site at the minute (dreaded WEBSENSE!) If it's the one i'm thinking of, Ive got those frequencies listed and a few more besides, particulalry from the last couple of years.
Will pass them on asap.

I'm working just down the road from you.Big building, oldham Road, Company name in big red letters.....
Does your mate in Poynton drive a Scoob?

Paul,Will try your advice and hopefully save my time typing the info out.

Many thanks
Steve

Newton Heath area. You must get it now!!

Kingfisher is not far from me.I'll keep an eye out for you if you're ever in the area.

I think you will have problems nowadays with the big teams.

Usually a plane is up over the stage (at height) and has on board all the radio repeaters for the big teams.

This way, a car anywhere on stage has no problem talking to the service area regardless of terrain. So the radios tend to be quite low power.

Of course, you might be lucky and pick up the signal. Now, whether they encript the signal or not is another matter.

This was all outlined in an article in RallySport a while back. If I can find it in my pile of mags. I'll try and dig out more details if anybody is interested.

Cheers

Ian,

I don't recall that article in Rallysport.Which edition was is? As is quite usual, I subscribe to the mag, but never get time to read it properly!

I remember a few years ago when Nicky Grist was co-driving Juha.I heard on the radio when they emerged from Grizedale I think? with no lights('94?).I remember some reference made to the repeater aircraft, then.
Since then I've heard some chat between drivers/service, although it's very rarely when cars are at stage start/finish ,but mostly during road sections. The other thing is, I believe they often use duplex frequencies, one for base, one for mobile. This way you never get to hear both sides of the conversation.

Any more insight into this would be inetersting to hear, if any one knows.

SPJ,

Found it (under a pile of CCC) !!

It's "RallySport Issue 9 July 2000" on pages 72-76.

Must actually sit down and read it properly as I only scanned it myself last time, bit like yourself.

Cheers

Ian,

Thanks for the info.I'll have a look at that article tonight. If I get chance!

Chandler,

Whether it's a smallish team is open for debate. Not being a footy fan, I don't really care.No prizes for guessing what your fave colour is then?

Reference to the frequencies.I found a list last night, came into work today to send it on ,and realised it's the one I used in 98.I have definitely got an updated one from last year somewhere.I'll have another crack at finding it for you.
I'll need it again myself soon, to reprogram my Scanner.

ANY MORE TAKERS ON THE ORIGINAL CB TOPIC? Surely, there must be plenty of you with CBs stashed in the cupboard!

Cheers

As promised, here is the list of frequencies I have.Unfortunately, I cannot find the list I made up during last years 'RAC'

You can see the frequencies used appear in batches. The only thing I can suggest is to do some random searching in or around those listed here, and the chances are you will come across something. As and when I come acroos the other info, I will post it here.Best of luck

Thumbs up

I was going to pose the same question. Looks like people are already planning for the tittle show-down.

Thanks Steve for the frequencies.
If I find out any more I shall post them here.

BTW don't own a CB but I have an air horn if that's any good!!!

Cheers
