Question Spec C variations ...

All.

What's the difference between the Spec C and the Spec C Type RA?

I've just noticed (when reading an old copy of Evo) that the Spec C that was almost as good as a BM CSL and a Porker GT3 was a Type RA? Previously I hadn't noticed and just assumed that all Spec C's were equal ...

Reason for asking is that Litchfields have a Spec C for sale @ £18k ... it's not a Type RA though? Is that a "bad thing"?

TX.

For the bug eye car, they all had RA in the name for a blob eye, the RA was a limited edition, first came in in 2005, has different and ajustable suspension, e/w c/l etc etc.
Worth buying though no matter which one you get, they all leave you with a big grin

Tony.

Cheers fella. Which was the one featured in Evo, bug eye or blob eye? It was issue 60.

Just had a search on here for "Spec C" and there was a thread a while back that talked about 3 versions of the Spec C - bum basic, 17" wheel version then the 17" wheel version with a few goodies thrown in. No mention of Type RA ...

That was a blob eye version
You get 2 "other" standard varients, the 16 inch motorsport which comes with steel wheels and crappy subaru brakes, its just designed to rip everything out of it, and the 17 inch version, which has the lightweight BBS alloys, no electrics etc (as per my cars spec) though you may find the car has a/c
There is also a limited version of the spec c but the Type RA (if i can find a pic of it for you ) was a 2005/06 model car.

Tony.

What version is the one on Litchfields? Is it a standard Spec C? If so, does it matter that it's not a Type RA?

The main differences between the two is the suspesion set up is completely different and the RA is more suited for track use as being a much firmer ride. The suspension upgrades consist of sti stage 4 adjustable dampers which are fitted with pink sti springs allowing for full adjustment. More is done to the rear with larger 21mm rear stabiliser bar that uses ball joint rear staliliser brackets. Also firming up the rear end are pillow-ball lateral links and trailing arms. There are two available RA's one with 17 inch wheels with Brembo brakes and the other with 16 inch wheels and the removal of the heavier brembo brakes thus reducing the weight by a further 30kgs. There is a 4 grand mark up on the RA which accounts for the suspesion up grades. Both models are fitted with the 1994cc engine twin scroll pumping out the same 276 bhp and 305 Ibs of torque both cars us lighter electric motors for windows etc.

cookstar the reason for most of them being white is because in japan white is deemed as lucky......Juggers if you speak to Ian he will tell you that the new 06 type ra is very rare in this country to his knowledge there are only 2 in the country and the chances of getting anymore is rare due to there limited build number and changes in the sva tests making it harder to import them hope that is some help to you.

It's not a Type-RA but it's a Spec C nonetheless

Taken from the Litchfield site

The MY06 Spec C is much lighter (upto 120kg) than the standard STI with lightweight glass, roof, boot lid etc. It also has:

Roof vent
The Spec C is fitted with a different radiator, water pump and additional engine & transmission oil coolers for improved cooling under track conditions.
A Roller bearing version of the Twin Scroll turbo is fitted to the Spec C.
The Spec C also gets a rear strut brace as standard.

I'd give Litcho a call if you haven't already; I was thinking about a Spec C when I was looking to buy mine, and he talked me out of it - the reason being that the MY05 'normal' STI just isn't that different mechanically, and it's a bit easier to live with on a day-to-day basis.

I'm sure Iain will happily explain all the changes and on which models they came in - the extent of the mechanical differences between MY04 and MY05 doesn't seem all that widely known or publicised.
