Looks clean.. But you know what.. I would refuse to buy that because of the sun-strip

They just make me think "This car has been thrashed around tesco's car park every saturday night"..

It is a Sport rather than a turbo though, yes? It's from Imprezasport.com...

Probably worth further enquries, but I'm with Davy on this one: beware the boy racer!! The ad just seems geared to appeal to that audience

DO NOT BUY ANYTHING WITHOUT FIRST GETTING IT PROPERLY INSPECTED. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!

Scoobies aren't really a boy racers car yet, certainly not in the same way as a Corsa or similar anyway. Some of the cheaper, older, tatty ones maybe, but that is inevitable for any any marque that doesn't charge the earth for new cars. Many will find their way into the hands of professionals and enthusiasts and be cherished. Even some of the youn un's I know with an older scooby in good nick look after them very well.

That's not too say they're not enjoyed, just to say there is a difference between use and abuse!

Some cars live by the coast ... rust is always on exposed metal then.

With that NumberPlate, isn't this the car that NASEEM smashed up and was sent to prison for????

I paid £3900 for an MY99 UK TUrbo in DBM, 1 owner but 95k.

I think it's worth looking at and making further enquiries as stated in this thread. Just got into it with your eyes open. Make sure you do all the usual checks, get it HPI'd and then inspected for peace of mind.

Good luck with it mate.

If any panel does not line up then its had work, maybe accident.

Take a pen along with you - slide in into the space between panels, hold at one position along the pen and run it around the space between panels.

The pen will tighten, or stick, or go loose .... if work has been done.

Remember these cars come off the production line perfect in fit and finish - any deviation requires answers.

But, if its a car for a few £1000 you are going to expect 'some' inperfections.

That lining up of the boot lid is common on uncrashed cars. Mine was like that and I had it from new. But CHECK for accidents.

Throttle cable isn't clipped down properly.

Would benefit from a fresher intercooler, removal of sun strip.

Better to test pannel gaps with coins... If you can get the thick end of a pen in the gap walk away and if your using the writing end then durrrr

Most older cars will have slightly off pannel gaps, even a very light prang can give you problems.

One odd thing on the engine, my car is an S reg ( early 1998 ) and the coil packs are mounted roughly in line and behind the alternator - but on this car they are over to the right ( as you look at the pic ) - did Subaru change it a year later ?

Quite possible that it had the old spoiler stolen ( or damaged while someone tried to steal it ) - doesnt take much pressure to bend the boot lid slightly, and you'll only really notice it where it doesnt quite line up anymore. Might explain why it has the Evo spoiler on there as well.

Seems a good price, but bear in mind it'll need the major cambelt service doing in 8,000 miles, which could be less than a year depending on how much you drive, and this can cost £600 - £700.

Also, check the condition of stuff like the brake discs and pads - I had to change mine recently and it was over £500 for them all fitted, so if the ones on this car are needing doing soon, then that can be another big expense.

This is one problem with cars like the Impreza - all the parts are expensive, and they dont get any cheaper to run and maintain just because they are cheap to buy !

If there's no service history just walk away. If a car hasn't been looked after, there's a big chance that the money you think you are saving now by getting it on the cheap will be spent later and then some.

All IMHO of course.

I paid £5k 2 months ago for a MY00 with 95k, pretty much standard apart from Magnex cat-back.

So price seems about right.

Pete is obviously right if a panel does not line up, possible accident etc.
But just another idea to explain it. A lot of people, when they want a big rear spoiler have been buying the whole boot lid with spoiler attached, as sellers feel they may damage the boot lid when removing spoiler ( ie maybe glued as well as bolted), hence slightly imperfect fit.

ive seen the rear panel, boot lid bit not line up on a few scoobs, ones that havent been in accident, like this one.....

im trying to get some history out of him, so far, ive received antifreeze job done 3 mths ago, gearbox rebuilt receipt and, um, a load of paper spread out, cant make any of it out, 1 last attempt at an oil/filter receipt, then i can gauge a price to drop him down too, as long as it wasnt at 20k that is, about 60k max i think. otherwise, phook it !!
