Easiest to do it on an empty fuel tank.
Best not to smoke mate.
Take care when removing the assembly. The level float sender sometimes snags. You just have to rotate it and move it about a bit.
It is an easy job, especially if you have the fitting kit.
Take care, pay attention and reassembly is just the reverse order.

Disconnect the battery and for gods sake dont drop any of the self tappers from the lid assembly into the tank!! You should be ok but refrain from smoking till the rear seat is back in place !!

I suppose to make sure there is absolutely no possibility of any sparks from shorted wires or activated switches.

Good advice and worth doing - why take even a small risk for the sake of a few seconds work.

From an explosion point of view, its often safer to do it with a full tank than an empty tank with a nice mix of fuel vapour and air.

Though if it does go, you have more to burn

if your standard fpr is a bit tired, the uprated pump may overcome it pressure wise and cause poor running, but normally will be ok..... only way to find out is to try it though
