£500 for tuning

For every £500 you spend on mods. you knock £1000 off its resale value.
Think, then sleep on it and think again .... repeat until you come to your senses - spend the £500 on something worthwhile!!

My finacial advice was given freely and you act like a pratt in response ... please don't ask for advice if you are not mature enough to handle whatever advice comes your way!

Lets make it relevant if you wish to use that analogy ...... no, I would NOT spend £1000 on a chair and then proceed to spend £500 changing its cover!!
I would buy the RIGHT chair in the FIRST place ...... you modders should buy the car you want right from the off!!!
If you don't want an Impreza ............ buy something else!! If you do want an Impreza then don't change it!

You'll also find that if you shop sensibly for your mods, you should be able to sell them on at some point for a reasonable return, (therefore not costing you £500 in the end).
I've bought and sold a few second hand back boxes and have now found the right one for sound and performance. I'll still be able to sell it on for £100-£150 when I decide to sell up, meaning it only cost me £0-£50.
Where you won't be able to recover any money is with a remap but then we aren't all scooby owners only interested in "keeping it standard" and "minimal running costs".
If I wanted a bog standard car I'd buy a Mondeo or something. I wanted something I could personalise and develop for myself - therefore a Subaru is perfect. I didn't want a car that had already been modded, even though it would've been cheaper, therefore I bought a standard one and spent my own money doing it.
Each to their own, personally I don't care about the residuals, loss of investment, etc. Otherwise I'd own a different car.
IMO.

There is no way you lose thousands when you sell just because it is modded.
You know all to well that quite a lot of second hand subaru's are modded anyway, be it just a simple exhaust, or the full monty of mods.
They still sell eventually.
I will agree that mods cost thousands and so spend the money on something else! LOL.
My mistake was buying a brand new WRX instead of waiting and getting the STI. Anyway i digress.

I still disagree. You can see a chav car from just a tuned one.
As you can if you spot the driver of it too.
My car is tuned but it aint a chav car. Nor do i like burberry caps
If you look in the right places, you will find the right car.
I have a mate who is my age, and his classic is so chavved up i slag him off for it so much. For a guy who is mid 30's to chav a car so badly, even i slap him for it.
Some of your points i agree with, but not a lot.
I will agree that i should have bought the sti and not the wrx, but again, each to thier own you know. You wanna mod, then mod, if you dont, dont.

It's his money and maybe a) he can afford to spend £500 without any return or b) he doesn't care whether he spends £500 with no return?
And who's to say when he sells he car he doesn't put it back to standard form, particularly if he feels it won't sell with the mods he's fitted?
