Unhappy WTF ARE THESE - WHEEL SPACERS?

Took my wheels off for the first time and saw these bad boys:

It is the black part in the centre I am referring to. What are they - they come off quite easily. I assume they are not really required and are merely there to assist in alligning the wheels when putting the wheel back on at first.

One of the four wheels do not have one, must have been left in the tyre place or the powder coating place earlier today- d'oh!!

Wheels in question are 18" PFF7's (replica Prodrive.)

Sorry for the **** pictures - need to get a better digital camera!!!

BTW, I think these wheels are from Revolution are the black parts from there or Subaru and how much for a replacement?

Cheers ladies!!

Edited to say, this is one of the two wheels that have not been powder coated yet!!

Are they plastic? There there to stop the alloy wheel corroding to the steel hub.It stops the wheel sticking on.I've removed mine as they started to break up.A smearing of copper grease will do the same job

they are normally refered to as 'spigot rings' or summit similar, and u are right they are to help with the seating of the center of the wheel over the hub ( usually on after market alloy wheels where the centre bore is a standard one size fits all and has to be adjusted to suit different cars using these to help the seating)

they will also help prevent (slightly) the rusting of the wheel to the hub, tho copper grease smeared over hub face is normally the best way to do this! lol

If i recall they are to line the wheel up correctly and to ensure its centrally loctated around the centre, they do not prevent corrosion or sticking to the hub, look at the rest of the wheel thats in contact with the hub.

I'm either drunk beyond all hope of recovery, or your photography needs to be done from more than 3 inches distant.

However, assuming I'm looking at the right thing, they look like spigot rings. Not necessary, but they hold the wheel centre on the hub while you put bolts in.

edit: Can I have a prize for being the slowest typer?

yes thay are 'spigot rings' from what i can see theres not normaly plastic on the centre bore on any wheel other then a spigot ring to make the hub sit nicely on the centre of the wheel

jees.
I wish you lot would do some research.
The spigot ring is there to take the load off of the wheel studs and onto the hub.
If you can get another one DO SO.

I think that's wrong tbh. What load? Spigot rings like that one are plastic. The load occurs between two flat metal surfaces. Maybe I've misunderstood

no hes right

the torque applied to the bolts carry around plastic rather than the 5 impact torques where the studs are (bit like a gasket really)

helps a little with vibration too

not an overly big deal.....but better to have them than not.

then why do most wheels not have them?

The bolts/studs aren't holding the wheels in place, they're torquing two metal faces against each other and the resultant friction stops your wheels coming off.
