It's a BG5, bought it 18 months ago as a winter runabout as my STi V3 isn't good in deep snow

http://www.showoffyourcar.com/cars/SUBARU/6742.JPG

Uppipe has been leaking for ages now, had to order one myself from IRS.jp as no-one makes a copy in the UK.

Got most of the parts removed but baffled how to get at the inboard bolt on the turbo uppipe flange, can reach the outboard bolt but it's pretty damned tight. Got some experienced help arriving tomorrow night though

Luckily, being Subaru's, you don't need to go under the bonnet often. It's done 108k miles so it's probably earned the right to some new parts under the bonnet.

Your anthracite wheels are different - I've some TSW multispokes to fit once I source tyres.

Chaps - just seen this thread.

SINCERE apoologies about this, especially with the Wales meet this weekend.
Totally out of my hands and I'm beyond furious about it.

I have just started a yahoo group as an emergency forum for any members who need to discuss this! I wish there was more I could do.

PLEASE PLEASE pass this link on to anyone else from UKLEgacy that you have details for and ask them to do the same so that the meet is not jeopardised by this farcical situation.

I would dearly appreciate it if this could possibly be made into a sticky thread even just for the next 3 days and would be indebted to the SN mods if they were able to do this.

The link to the yahoo group is:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/UKLegacy

Again, my sincerest apologies for this ridiculous forum downtime

Very odd Steve - you'd think the word Legacy was on here as well as uklegacy and uklegacy.com enough times for the search to work on it.

I'm only sorry that I can't do more to sort this out. I am getting very very nervous about the time this is taking and if the server rebuild explanation is an excuse to cover up something worse....

No way should it take this long so I want a very good explanation for all this.
It's a shambles for a paid service!!

Cheers Steve (and Paul)

It looks like we have a small gathering on the yahoo group I set up which might just manage to save the meet.

Really sorry again about this. I just spoke to my host again and he says he's furious as he's left lots of tickets, voicemails etc with the main company but still awaiting a reply. He says the moment he gets some control back the board will be back up again. Realistically I am sadly expecting it might still be a bit before it's back up but I am fairly sure we won't have lost it all. I have begun investigating alternative hosting options now so we'll see what happens....

Just keep your collective fingers crossed.....

Hi Jim,

Shame about the board, not wanting to be a pest but you wouldn't have a copy of the 'how to' change an uppipe thread lying around in a cache anywhere. Got my GTB in bits and I'm at the stage where I'm trying to undo the Uppipe to turbo bolts and getting at the inboard bolt is a bit of a challenge. Just wondering what the thread said about this - is it accessible when I lift the engine off it's mounts?

Thanks

Kevin.

I don't think there actually was one yet on there for changing the up-pipe as it's not something a huge number of us have done.

However! I was working on a version of one I found on the web which I might be able to email you tomorrow from work potentially. May be some help.

Kevin, which up-pipe?

From memory the secondary was especially awkward and I loosened the engine mounts and jacked-up the engine about 2cm. A good selection of spanners and ratchet extensions (UJ & wobble head) helps.

Aha, good man Duncan, remembered you'd done this a few times. Tis the secondary one. There was a 'how to' on the Legacy BB but this was possibly the UK car and not the GTB.
I've removed the whole heatshield and the downpipe, is there anything else that needs removed around the turbo? From memory, the 'how to' guide said something like afetr removing the downpipe, remove the visible 17mm bolts (3) - these seem to hold on a bracket for the turbo wastegate acctuator. Not sure this is necessary. Only need to drop off the undertray and the manifold heatshied now - is the heatshield simple to remove?

Ta for any advice.

You don't need to remove the down-pipes in order to remove the up-pipes!

From memory what I did for the secondary up-pipe was -
* remove heat shields from both ex manifolds - some of the bolts will probably shear
* unbolt and remove the cross-pipe
* unbolt the up-pipe from rhs ex manifold
* unbolt the ex manifold (3 nuts) using a long socket extension and lower the manifold
* remove (at least) the lower heat shield from the secondary turbo

that just leaves the 2 bolts holding the up-pipe to the exhaust valve assembly and they are a bugger to get to. I've done it in 2 ways
* long socket extension with wobble-end reaching from below and in front of the subframe
* or, slacken the engine mounts, jack-up the engine by about 2cm and use spanners from behind and above the subframe.

That last bit is very fiddly and frustrating. Putting it back is if anything even worse.

Good luck
