Default New rear silencer or PPP for 06 STI

Any body fitted just a back box to a uk 06 STI and can you confirm if the burble returns or not ?
Undecided whether to go for the full PPP or just change the back box.

If I had to change the rear 2 silencers to improve the sound, would this effect my warranty ?

if you change the zorst then the warrenty is more than likley gone. I've just PPP'd my 06WRX and it's got it's burble back.

Check with your dealer about the warranty but as I said IMHO you can kiss it goodbye for the Engine at least.

Thank guys !

Trumble, are you happy with just the back box, as i understand the PPP changes 2 silencers, have you had chance to compare with an 06 STi ppp ?

Also is there any change to insurance just to change a back box ?

I tried the MY05 PPP center but that doesnt fit - with just the BB you can definitely hear the turbo spool up now.

I do have a center from a MY05 STI, I have offered it up and it looks like it fits - so I might give that a go this weekend - just got to get the ramps out and do it.

I went to a dealer yesterday and looked underneath their PPP demo, it only had a back box on it. I went in and asked and they said PPP on the 06 is only a back box. I thought it was ment to be the centre as well ?

PPP is a lot more than changing the exhaust mate

I have changed my exhaust back back and centre section on an 06 STI and yes the burble returns beautifully but that is only one part of the PPP.

Yeah Dynamix, I realise the difference, but i am weighing up all aspects to modify my car.

The 06STI as standard has bags of Torque compared to the 05 so at the moment increase in power/torque is not my priority. However its just a little too refined on the exhaust noise so i,m trying to decide on:-

1. PPP
£1700 + £200 a year insurance which gives me extra noise + 40 bhp + warranty

or

2. Backbox only
£200 / £300 + £100 per year insurance just for the noise and maybe a warranty issue

Vote now, you decide !

i have changed back box and mid section and air filter and that is about it and run out at 314 bhp / 310 lb/ft torque with no warranty issues - it would only affect the exhaust anyway.

personally i wouldnt do the £1700 for PPP and am not going to - if I need more power it will be a custom Ecutek remap for me even though it would screw the warranty.

The PPP sounds slightly louder and more burbly than just the Prodrive back box.

I'm also not impressed overly with the PPP to be honest, so I will be looking elsewhere.

I have PPP on my 06 Sti and the burble is back and sometimes even get the odd pop. Changes to the exhaust were front centre section (decat) and back box.

Compared to my old 03 Sti (non PPP) the standard 06 does feel much more responsive and I thought that I probably wouldnt go for PPP again but in the end decided to and I am extremely happy I did.

Its not all about the additional power, the car is just so much easier to drive, especially around town as there is so much low down torque. No need to rev high in every gear to get it moving like I had to in the 03.

I know the custom maps can give better results but I cant afford to throw away my warranty on a circa £30k car.

Just my opinion of course.

Still undecided about which way to go with so many differing opinions on the 06 sti PPP.
Sti man, you say you’re not impressed, is this with the test specification sheet results from prodrive or a first hand test drive. It appears as though most people who had it fitted are generally impressed or are they trying to justify their purchase ?

After speaking to my dealer, they would turn a blind eye to ‘exhaust only’ mods as long as the original was replaced should a warranty issue occur.

What Exhaust options could I safely get away with without having a remap i.e. removing rear cat, middle silencer and backbox would probably release 15 to 20 bhp which should be noticable plus retain my warranty and not exceed the +10% power band increase available with my insurance company

To summarise my priorities are Warranty, Burble to return , Extra Power !

Any comments would be appreciated

i removed the middle silencer, changed back box and airfilter and garage are fine with it under warranty. Just wont replace exhaust under warranty... but then why would they??

1. Burble is back
2. Power is better than expected - RR showed it at 314BHP/ 309.5 lbft - really noticeable difference (please dont start debate on whether the RR road is accurate ... been done to death already )
3. Warranty is intact

Job done

Mind you remap is very tempting at some point or TSL kit which speaking to Graham at TSL at the scoobyball they reckon they can get to 370 bhp without too much hassle for the same dosh as PPP

Have you still got the rear cat pipe fitted ?

if so, were you advised not to change this ?

the centre cat could not be changed as it is a diff unit to the previous new-age ones - the downpipe is longer too. To remove this I would have needed to go for a complete system, which i couldnt stretch to.

i think the downpipe is same as JDM old version but probably mistaken

I'm a bit confused. Does the MY06 have 2 cats followed by a further silenced section (the 'flat' one)?
