Question Water Wetter

Have any of you guys used this?, it's claimed that it reduces running temps
by some 20 degres (spelling).

I noticed it today in Graham Goodes for around £12.00

I believe it's supposed to break down the surface tension of the water allowing better heat dissipation, BUT.

The heat has to go somewhere and that is surley into the surrounding
area, ie the block etc.

Perhaps Harvey can shed a little more light on it's qualities.

If your coolant temp is below the thermostat opening temperature. It is IMPOSSIBLE for to go any lower!

All that'll happen is the theromostat will shut to keep the temperature up

The only time that you'll need something to aid cooling is if the radiator doesn't have sufficient capacity and can't keep the coolant temperature within manufacturer's parameters. The scoob's radiator is more than sufficient. The only exception is if you fit a smaller sized radiator to allow fitment of a a huge ***** front intercooler

In short: If your engine isn't overheating, there isn't a problem, thus you don't need it

If you want lower coolant temps - swap the thermostst for one of a lower opening temp. Why you'd want to do that is beyond me though

Water wetter's been dicussed either here or on 22B.com.

What I recall about the discussion...
It does seem to allow better transfer of heat to the water. Average water temps. may rise. If you know your chemistry, it's probably possible to buy the same or similar chemicals for a fraction of the price. There was some discussion about reducing cooling capacity because you've replaced some of the water with something else. Also there's a suggestion that "dishwasher rinse aid" is more or less the same stuff and does the same job

do a search on this and see what has been written by Harvey Smith, i think he is of the opinion that it reduces hot spots around the engine rather than specifically reduce temps, i'm sure he would have tested this somehow to make his thoughts public on it
