Default Help- Buying Impreza

Hi eveyone.... this is my first post!

I am looking at buying a 2005 EU import Subaru Impreza from Bob Gerard in Leicester. The car has done 11,700 miles and has had three services already done (at 1,000 6,000 and 11,700) all at Roger Clark Motor Sport in Leicester.

My question is will my local Subaru dealer service the car and carry out any warranty work. Does the fact that the car has not been serviced by a Subaru dealer effect the warranty.

Has anyone brought a car from Bob Gerard before?

Thank you for your responses in advance

Don't know much about Bob Gerard although I've been keeping an eye on their prices for some time now. I have a 05MY wrx wagon from Motorpoint.

Local Subaru dealer is obliged to carry out any warranty work at no charge to you if the car comes with the standard 3 yr European warranty. They may be a bit frosty about servicing the car but then that's their loss if they refuse - just take it to another Subaru Dealer or other independent specialist.

My EU import came from Malta - most of the EU imports being sold by car supermarkets etc come from Malta or Cyprus. The servicing record looks OK against the servicing spec for my car. The 6,000 mile service was probably unnecessary unless this cooincides with the car being 12 months old.

Check if the car has a Cat 1 alarm fitted and that you have a certificate for the record. Subaru UK fit a Cat 1 alarm to their imports so if it doesn't have one then get Bob Gerard to do it and you could drive a bargain with them on this - or try to !

If the car is more than a year old - check if the service book has been stamped to show that the rust proof check has been done - Mine requires an annual check - and Subaru Malta say that this must be done by a Subaru dealer to maintain the warranty. Maybe another bargaining point ?

I attach a previous post from Subaru Malta who explain that it is not essential to use a Subaru dealer to ensure continuity of the warranty.

If the car has been serviced by an independent then there are certain conditions which have to be met regarding documentation evidence having to be sent to the originating dealer - Malta or wherever. So unless this has been done by Bob Gerard, then I would think the warranty would be invalid - so another bargaining point potentially ? I'm assuming that Roger Clark Motorsport are not authorised Subaru UK dealers ?

All the best !

Thank you for the posts

bazzaa your car sounds good but WR blue is not the colour I want, but thanks again.

tim`s wrx, thanks alot for your post. It has been really useful. I have sent a e mail to Bob Gerard with the questions you raised and am awaiting a response.

For your information Roger Clark are not authorised Subaru UK dealers. The car does have a CAT1 alarm fitted as well as RAC trackstar 5. The service book has been stamped to show the rust proof check has been done.

Once again tim thanks for taking the time to reply to my post.

If anyone thinks I should know/ask anymore questions please let me know

Thanks again
