Default anyone went from a classic to newage?

had my MY05 WRX PPP for a few months now from new, used to have a my95 WRX import

the import seemed faster accelerating in a straight line than the new one does and i read somewhere that this is down to the import delivering all power in one big whoosh where the newage imprezas have it spread more across the rev band even though the new car's performance figures are all better than the old

anyone have any views on this or other points of diffrence between the two models?

cheers

Mickey

I went from a UK '98 Classic Turbo 2000 to a UK '05 WRX PPP . .I found that the '98 seemed to have more 'oomph' - but I was definitely going faster in the new one <img>

The classic seemed to have a 'push in the back' feeling when you could hear the turbo spin and the car leap forward - new one doesn't . On the other hand, every time I think 'I'll put my foot down' in the new age, I'm already doing 60! Perhaps I need a track day . . .

Both about the same power. Classic about 200kg lighter. Its not rocket science.

My 05 Wrx as standard felt pretty lame. After doing mods to it I managed to get it to 285 bhp which feels a bit better. The ride feels more refined(softer) on newages compared to classics ,so you would feel the acceleration more in a classic even with less power IMO.

Agree with all of the above.. went from 97 UK Turbo to 05 WRX.. Classic was much more raw and seemed faster, but as said, when I look at my speedo now I'm doing the same speed but a lot more smoothly..

i moved from a 96 V2 STI with 295/286 to 01 bugeye STI JDM with 330/330

the bugeye doesnt feel as quick as the classic, but when you look at the speedo it's def. faster!!! its also got more topend power, and excellent on motorway with the 6th gear

if you want FUN go for the classic, if you want refine go for the newage

all the refinement has gone into strenghtening the chasis / geometry etc so the handling is better at the sacrifice of a raw speed feeling but i do agree that when you do accelerate in a newage and look at the speedo you are traveling faster than you would expect!

even though i can now run on normal unleaded with the uk version it has ppp and i still use this petrol even though i probaly should use 97 but the car never really gets raked at the moment, and its a bit of a breather from traveling 20 miles twice a week to the nearest Shell garage to use Optimax when i had the import!

I went from a UK MY99 Wagon (with mild mods) to a standard MY04 Wagon.

General build quality and overall comfort was miles better on the 04... but then you'd expect that on a car with 5 years more development.

The classic deffo felt quicker, and gave you bags of that 'push you in the back of the seat' feeling, where as the the Newage just does not seem to blow you away. (Having been a passenger in a 350bhp/350lbft JDM WRX STi.... that blew me away!)

The Newage scores points for me in 2nd and 3rd gear. Get the revs up and plant your foot down and the gearing seems to go on and on for ages.

The standard Newage seats are not a patch on the standard MY99 seats, though after completing 26K miles in the WRX they feel better.

If you want a 'go-kart' get a classic. If you want a bit more luxury (not a lot though) and smoother power delivery get a Newage.

Since taking delivery of mine I've added some mods on the handling and power front...

Prodrive lowering kit
18" ROTA alloys
TMIC splitter
Ninja BB, Ninja Centre and a Prodrive centre de-cat
STi panel filter

...which has improved the handling, the sound and added some power too. (I had the car RR'd in Jan 05 and got 260bhp/249lbft)

I'm now waiting for April next year to de-cat the down pipe, uprate the fuel pump, fit some bigger brakes and have a chat with a certain Mr Rawle
