Default FMIC Lag???.............. Discuss please

As above lads,

My cossie had a Massive RS500 intercooler in the front of it and i had a temp gauge for the air coming out of it and on full tilt on a hot day id be hard pressed to get it above 37deg C.

Im going to put a Temp gauge in my STI 7 and see what the charge temps are like.

If theyre high im going to be looking for a bigger top mount or a front mount.

My car is a slightly modified STI 7 Uk car and will have the following mods,

Full Decat Hayward & Scott exhaust
TSL Group N panel Filter
HKS SSQV VTA
Warlbro 255 Fuel pump
Ecutek remap.

How will the new FMIC/TMIC affect my cars drivability, lag etc.

Thanks

I did lag tests - flat to the floor in 4th from 1500 RPM with a STI8 TMIC and a Hybrid FMIC on my P1. higher state of tune than yours at 400BHP. The car was correctly mapped for both intercoolers.

Result- hardly anything. you could argue there was maybe 100 RPM difference but thats about it. You certainly really cant feel it. 1Bar at 3600RPM with the TMIC on a hybrid Garrett turbo.

The difference in charge temps is massive though. I just could not keep them under control with a TMIC.

Wether you *need* a FMIC at that spec is another matter.

Same findings here....I still hit 1bar at ~2950rpm with a TD05 with using a hybrid fmic. It's so similar I can hardly tell. The big difference is the low down torque which seems much better and that is before the remap next tues.

nope your putting in more dense cold air!!! = more power

i have a front mount and apart from the dumpvalve being a bit louder the was no diference i could tell of even on fast gear changes.

its a 1995 sti 2 with the TD05 turbo which is the biggest standard and most lagey but it aint made it worce

spec
apexi ecu
uprated fual pump
550cc injectors
fuel regulator
air filter
decat
exhaust

running 1.4 bar of boost

340 maybe 350 bhp

deno if u know this but one of the biggest advantages of the front mounted intercooler it it will allow you to run much higher levels of boost, if set up correctly. a top mounted intercool will only run 1.2bar ish safely cos it will det otherwise.

i recomend u get the car remaped and boost pushed up more with the FMIC

Will i be better with a large top mount or are these not worth the money ?

I cant get my head around the fact that even if i run a large top mount its still sitting on top of the turbo and the heat will still be there.
