Default Subaru Forester

So guys & gals, what are your views on the Forester? I need to upgrade my car soon and the other half's WRX has got me interested in Subaru's, the engines are very simplistic (which I like)..

I'd be looking at a 2.0 turbo face lift version (around 2000).. probably an import to.

I like the look of them and they have seriously depreciated in price (another bonus ..

What is the performance and handling like on these tractors?

Cheers

Don't worry, I love my offroaders, I've had several over the years.. But I always call them tractors!

Well, I went the following route:

MY00 classic with full decat and other mods
MY01 bugeye ditto
MY02 STi UK PPP plus other mods
2003 Vauxhall VX Turbo
2003 Golf R32 with AmD 271bhp remap
Currently MY05 Forester 2.5XT PPP plus other mods - 261bhp/280ft/lb 0-60 five and a bit

Once you get used to the softer suspension it corners pretty well, Whiteline F&R arb's going on soon, and it loves to eat Porsche Boxsters

Wouldn't go back. Next change will probably be a Litchfield Forester STi

2.5 didn't arrive until late 2004 (MY05).

Insurance? How long's a piece of string........depends on age/record/location etc. Mine's £500 ish, IIRC a bit cheaper than an Impreza.

The Forester is the Gentleman's Impreza - most people don't know what it is until this Japanese wardrobe goes whooshing past them........
