Default Towing weights.

Can anyone with a UK car and handbook give me the information on vehicle weights and gross train weight ie. the maximum car weight when combined with a trailer.
Preferably for a Wagon but a Saloon will do.

The vehicle weight doesn't appear to be in mine, unbelievably.

The MPW (maximum permissible weight) for a wagon at towing is 1805 kg.

The Rear Maximum Permissible Axle Weight is 980 kg.

Thanks for the input so far guys.
Mike ; that is the first place I looked but it is not there, not on two imports I have checked so far.
Basically I want to tow a trailered Scooby saloon with a four wheel braked trailer behind one of my Scooby wagons but I do not want hassle from the law.

MY01 can pull 1200kg braked.

Add this to weight of vehicle (1350kg)

Train weight=2550kg.

Legally your allowed to tow up to the weight of your tow vehicle but its only
recommended that you tow only 85% of the vehicle's weight hence the weights in the owners book.
Harvey i tow a 1300kg caravan with STI8 with no prob's,and surpriseingly good on fuel!!!

You are allowed to tow upto the maximum stated by the manufacturer but police take a dim view of anything over a 100% match. Some manufacturers maximum is way over 100% of the cars kerbside weight. The law is general but basically Police can presecute if the oufit is unstable, unsafe or causing an obstruction. It is an offence to tow more than the manufacturers limit or to exceed the nose weight.
The 85% recommendation is something used by the caravan organisation but has no affect on the law or manufacturers stated figures.
A 1300kg trailer behind a STi8 is illegal by the way.

Cheers
Lee

It's the finer point of the law I was wanting to clarify.
In practical terms I have quite a lot of towing experience but I do not want to start towing a Scooby on a four wheel braked trailer with another Scooby because while done properly it might be quite safe, it does not take a mathematician to work out that I will probably have exceeded the vehicles GTW.
Mr. I has the advantage that the weight of his van is likely to be unknown to any observer.
I will now make arrangements to borrow a Chelsea Tractor.

Id use a four wheel drive that can be regarded as a dual purpose vehicle (a defender for example) as you can get away with a lot more.

The advice that you were given on 5-0 was incorrect btw. Assuming that you have an index number with fewer than the normal seven characters, then you can trim the plate providing that the correct 33mm and 11mm spaces/margins remain.
