Sadly is not like it used to be...Ragging it from Keilder to Grizzly Grizedale in my good ol Audi Quattro....that lovely gruff 5 cylinder turbo warbling away...
<sigh>
Mark.
The new format has definitely lost me as a spectator...

Mark,
I too loved whizzing around the whole country, taking in maybe five or six stages a day, but you are denying yourself the spectacle of modern WRC cars for a bit of traffic hassle.
It's still a lot less hassle than watching almost any other top level sport
Geezer

We did Silverstone last year, and the year before we did a few stages in Wales.
The nightstages are fanstatic and the atmosphere is awesome ~ sadly this year, somehow I can't muster the enthusiasm.
Maybe I just need a break for a year.
Don't get me wrong, I thinks its a fantastic experience...
Maybe...just maybe I might find what I'm missing. I know I'll kick myself if I don't attend and Burns or McRea wins !!!

Hmm,
But you get cheap gas, good weather, Michelle Gellar, ludicrous gun laws, cars for $0.04 each. What would you rather have?
Anyway, what about the Olympus rally? Now don't tell me that was before your time...................

Dont worry Jamie, it's gonna be planned like a military operation!
Between myself and my rally teams co-driver we will have one major rally route sorted out, all laid out on OS Maps.
I'll get in touch with my mate "secret" who co-drives on the RAC and is now a full time profesional for "secret" WRC team and get the full route maps the competitors use.
But you didnt hear that OK

Does that mean you will have equipment that is not up to the job, you turn up late at the wrong location and then end up killing your own men?

Kevin,
A limited number of passesa are available for people who turn up on the day for £10 per stage. Failing that, if you can find somewhere to park legally that is close enough, I can't see how they can refuse you access to forestry commission land.
Subie Gal,
Try $6 a gallon. I've been to Vancouver, which isn't far from you (in our terms anyway!) and the weather was glorious!
Anyway, about that offer for Michelle Gellar............

Kevo,
Easiest way is to borrow a green Land Rover. Then make up a couple of Forestry Commision stickers and apply to the doors.
Then you can drive up any fire break etc. right to the stage.
Job's a good 'un
Cheers

Following the 'RAC' has been a tradition of mine for the last 11 years or so, and so far, I haven't missed a year.My rally enthusiasm was fuelled many years ago by my father who took me marshalling on the '79 RAC at Knowsley Safari Park, when he was in the Stockport Motor Club.
Other memories include Clipstone Forest which I remember as being a cracking stage.
Sadly, I think some of the fun has gone.Chasing service barges, seeking out pub car parks, trying to find the top teams 'off the beaten track service locations'
That's progress, I suppose.Taking the event to the masses.
I will only be a part participant in the spectator stakes this year, but I must admit, the closer it gets, the more the enthusiasm increases.
The only saving grace this year is that we could well have a battle for a British World Chapmpion between two Brits instead of mixing it with the Finns etc..Let's hope Mr Mcrae is fighting fit for San Remo.
The event may well be turning into something more clinical than an oparating theatre, but at least we have a WRC event. We should at least be grateful for that.
John F/Ian Watkins,
Is any of your 'secret' info going to be made public on this BBS?, or do those of us who don't have the pleasure of knowing you personally have to rely on the good old 'Rallypak'
I am hoping to get to meet some of the Scooby brigade in November, so any planned routes/stages etc would be useful to know.
Get digging out your boots/waterproofs.
Steve

SPJ: STOP, Your getting me all nostalgic
I'll be there, as usual, but don't know which stages to pick (apart from Hafren[Sweet Lamb] )
John/Jamie hope to meet you guys somewhere, I think it's great that SubieGal travels half way around the world just to see her hero! Women who like Scoobies AND standing in the middle of Wales in the rain!!!!
Are you guys ruffing it or being terribly civilised??
Chris

SPJ,
Live not to far from Clipstone, they still run local Rallies through the stage and its still as good. Would love to see some WRC action on these stages again.
Loads of nice tarmac roads around the stages for your Scoob as well.
Cheers

SPJ,
Nah, I'm sure myself and John will only be too willing to help out with info. as and when we get it. I hope I'm not speaking out of turn for John (who isn't in country at mo.)
I *think* I have managed to blag a road book for the event which has all the good info. plus maps of the actual stages which will also show all the access roads etc. i.e. much better detail than the stuff you get in the spectator pack. Won't know if the blag has come off until the begining of Novemeber though
With regards to roughing it or not, well that will be a last minute decision for me, based on which (if not all) the days I can attend and after I have an idea of what the traffic will be like. Oh, and whether my "tickets" turn up or not
Cheers
