Just had my01 1000 mile service (charged £90 as I have a euro import)

I just had my01 wrx 1000 mile services, the dealer told me it would be about £40, but when I took it there they said as it is a parallel import I have to pay 4 labour, suddenly it cost me £90.00 is that normal??

Can't comment on the "normality", but it's contrary to E.U. regulations (assuming that it was E.U. sourced). Write to the Competition Commissioner and he will do errrr... sod all.

I can't recall whether there is anything that says that first service is free, but if there is you have a case for a refund of the labour fee.
If there isn't, then I would have thought that it's not unreasonable, bacause IM won't be paying them, and your only gripe could be about their having increased the fee from the one quoted, providing they were aware that it was an import.

The labour for a UK model's first service is FOC. It says that in the service book, and is my experience from my UK MY00 - and hopefully the P1 this Saturday
All you pay for is the oil.

When you buy a UK car, the supplying dealer pays for the labour in the 1000 mile service.
The car should have semi synthetic oil installed at this service and the job takes approx 20 minutes.
£90 seems a lot, even at dealer labour rates.

This *IS* normal. As already mentioned, the labour charge is free on UK sourced cars.
So, look at it this way, you could have bought the UK car and had the first service labour 100 times over before you've made the difference up...
Whether Subarus in general need a 1000 mile service is open to debate: they don't get it on the continent...

I can't remember who pays for the new filter tho'. I suspect it will be me
Can someone remind me about the different oils? Is there a 'running-in' oil initially, that gets changed to semi-synthetic at 1000 miles - and that's why there's the 4000rpm limit below 1000rpm? Do the UK dealers then use fully synthetic at the subsequent services, or do you have to ask?

Mine was £90 also....last year on my MY00.....get used to it.
I have and would do again in the future...the following.
Import Car.......save money.
Service car through IM for duration of 12 month warranty. Pay your £90 for 1000miler and smile sweetly.
Buy extended warrenty for period after first year from someone else.....and get it to cover mods.
Use reputable motorsport/pecialist garage to lok after your car after first year.
Just my opinion of course....and I know Subaru garages vary in standard all over UK...but IMHO, you get a better standard of service from the specialst performance car places.

I know I saved a packet on the car, but its just when someone tells u its going 2 cost £40 and then the price is £90 (including 10% discount for being a member of the SIDC) its a bit of a shock, all it included was the filter and oil change. Im a tight **** as it is :-).

Wouldnt service my import 1st or second service
- "Sorry it Grey"
- "No its not its Sonic Blue"
Still........... got me 276bhp engine though .
BTW I had a Ford Probe 2.5 V6 (long story ) from new from a car supermarket and had to pay for 1st service 1000 miles and the 1st keeper on log book was Ford Motor Works UK and had 12 month warranty. Work that one out . It was explained to me as it was in the "on the road" cost which is where the dealer gets tehir money for 1st service, plates, tax and reg costs.
cheers
