Hi All,
Made it up to Mull for the annual rally.
What a cracker. Might not be up to the pace of the WRC, but you couldn't find a nicer bunch of spectators or competitors.
And they don't 'alf try hard.
This guy was giving it just a little too much, and the end result can be seen in the video. Damn camera missed the actual impact, but you will all be happy to know that after putting the car back on its wheels they continued on to finish the rally (minus a windscreen, and with about .5 tonne of mud attached to the car )
Anyway, the clip is at http://www.a-wee-website.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/ouch.wmv
I'll put some more up later, including some awesome sounding minis
Andrew.
PS : Pete, was that you there with the red WRX with gold wheels and the morretes ?

I was over for the first time in about three years. We were marshalling on the Mishnish stages. Damn good fun and the first year in yonks that it didn't rain Some of the stages still scare the whatsit out of me
Didn't get much chance to see competitive rallying - I was on the stop line for SS1, ATC for SS6/9 but very impressed when I was on the start for SS15. We did spectate on the last stage. No real option - we couldn't drive from our stage to where we were staying because of the road closures so we had to walk through part of the last one anyway. Helped us work up a thirst
Shame Callum Duffy broke the car - the times he was setting in a Mk2 RS1800 were silly.
Loads of Scoobs on the island - the red one with gold wheels and morettes might have been mine - S55 ***.
Roll on next year - the chalet's booked already

Yep, that would have been your scooby that I saw.
Looks very similar to Pete's, but I couldn't remember his rego ...
It was our first time at Mull this year, but we plan on doing it again
Hmmm, a chalet, what's one of those. Real men sleep in tents And freeze their butts off
Andrew.

Hello All,
Just got back from Mull, what a weekend !!! Our first year competing and there was a bit of everything going on.
On the first night we started steady we where lucky that when we caught cars in front they where very good and pulled over really well so after the first 3 stages we had pulled from 108 up to 39th. Over the next 2 stages, Scridain and Gribun everything felt good, the tyres and car working well. Anyone who saw us over the BIG jump at the end of Gribun will testify the same. As we pulled up to the control at the end of the stage both me and Dave (the Driver) where screaming down the intercom to each other, what a buzz. At the end of the first night we had climbed up to 26th.
For the daylight stages we decided to have a push, (as did some others, car 15 Mark Houdson and car 45 Peter Smith had big offs on Calgary). For the first loop round the top of the island everything went well moving us up to 17th.
The second loop started well with a 7:05 time for Mishnish locks (9th quickest) and a 6:23 time for Calgary bay (joint 7th quickest), but on the next stage it all started to go a bit pear shaped.
We had it marked as a flat over crest but while flat in 4th the car landed with 2 wheels on the grass to the right of the road, which pulled us into a ditch. Dave got the car back on to the road but thought we had broke the steering. So we pulled over to have a look. On inspection all the wheels where pointing in the right direction so off we went. Half a mile on though we had to stop again to change a flat on the front. We got to the finish without going OTL but had dropped 6 mins. By the end of the daylight stages we where down to 40th.
We now had two choices
One: drive for the finish
Two: Try to catch car 22 (as we where both competing for the first time and there was a prize for the best newcomer).
Yep you guessed it look out car 22 !!
Over the rest of the rally we had taken time out of them but with our problems John Morrison/Aly Mackay in there Evo where now roughly 2 minuets ahead of us, the first stage of Saturday night was the big 21 mile Loch Tuath/Calgary bay. We decided to have a big push on this one and see how we lay at service, All started well (as it usually does!!) we caught the car in front (1 min intervals) after 5-7 miles but just after we passed him went of and got stuck in a bog. We thought that was it as it was well wedged but some bloke’s appeared out of nowhere and pushed us back on (Big thanks to who ever you where).
We now decided to get out of the stage and call it a day but collected a mis-fire 2 miles from the end and had to park it up……..
Oh well next time
All in all though not a bad performance from a pinto powered Escort, we managed to embarrass some very quick cars.
Just a pity we have to weight a whole year to have another go.
Our friends in the Subaru got up to 10th after the first 3 stages but then also found some Mull bog juice to get stuck in.
Anyone get any photos? Car 108 (Orange MkII Escort)
