Default rattle rattle rattle

I have an annoying rattle in my MY05 WRX which seems to be coming from the rear windscreen??? Any ideas anyone? (except for turning up the stereo!!)

Thanks

Lots of people had this (me included) and I cant find mine. I've had the rear seats out as well as sitting in the back whilst the Mrs drives but it's one of those noises you cant pin down. My latest guess is something loose unrder the roof lining, or perhaps parcel shelf.

/edit to say a couple of peeps thought it was the rear passenger handle/hanger thing but it isn't on mine

cheers, I will give it a go. Can rattles only be heard by people with a slightly obsessive nature? Other people say they cant hear it but my ears seem to be fine tuned to the noise of the rattle!

I have a wagon and a rattle comes from the 'hook' that the latch latches onto ... if that makes sense .................... is it a wagon or saloon? I guess saloon as you mentioned parcel shelf??

Do you have details? Is it one of those 'take it in to swap the plastic thingy whenever you feel like it' jobs or is it a 'the corner of your car is about to fall off, stop driving it immediately and hide behind the nearest hedge hoping you don't get caught by shrapnel' type things?

I have just been on to the dealer who has confirmed that the rattle is caused by some locating pegs in the rear screen and it is a known fault for which there is a bulletin. Apparantly they just take the screen out, remove the pegs and put it back in!!

Thanks for all your help (especially scoobyboy!!)

By the way they quoted me £178 + VAT for a 10k service. Surely I can get it cheaper than this??? In Yorkshire area.

I done the job myself after a next to useless response from cheam motors, just remove the side panels next to rear screen drop rear roof lining down, white plastic pegs in corners, just cut them off.Takes 20 mins.Dealers are a waste of time JASON

Yep have just removed mine and the little black thingy in the middle and the noise seems to have gone. Though did wonder if just removing the little black thing in the middle might have done the job

there's a inch long piece of stippled plastic (bit like velcro) in the middle of the rear window. makes a hell of a noise if you wiggle it around.

like howy, i wonder if it was this alone that made the noise on mine. ho-hum no harm done, just got about 30000 other rattles to cure now

I removed the 2 white locating pegs and the black velcro clip but still had a rattle definetly coming from the rear windscreen... But i checked the rear windscreen from the outside.. under the black windscreen rubbers that surround the windscreen are more locating pegs and thats where my noise is coming from i am nealy 100%sure..So i sprayed a small amount of wd40 and it stopped.. ..If it returns i will be letting the dealer take out the rear screen and remove all the pegs once and for all.....
