I would suggest you visit/get in touch with members from the P1 Owners Club. They have a wealth of experience with the cars and they are (I guess) proper enthusiasts for that particular model.

Plenty of P1's seem to have had replacement engines and I think it was due to ECU/fuelling problems, etc. If the job has been done properly (it was under warranty on most of them I think) you should have no worries.

I've looked in to options for my next purchase and a P1 is on the list. All I'd suggest is get the car with the best history you can find, and if it has been modified (as many have), look for respected names that have done the work.

There's a lovely looking one on eBay at the moment....it may be on here too actually. It has 357bhp, but looks like a very nice one.

Good luck.

The P1 I have seen has 50,000 miles and a full subaru service history I gather it should say on the service history as to weather it has had a full engine build or not? Also if not what should be the first thing I do change ecu and fuel pump to solve problem yes.

I wouldn't limit myself to just a P1 - try looking at an Sti 5 or 6 - a lot cheaper than a P1, just as fast and good looking if you buy the right one.

P1s are nice, don't get me wrong, but you are limiting yourself if you just look at those.

Personally:

Get a good Type R.

Any mods, look for clear evidence that someone competent has been involved in engine mapping and suspension alignment.

Graham.
