Default Esso Supreme - as a last resort

I have just had to stick a tenner of Esso Supreme in as my tank was running on fumes, i normally put Optimax in - will Esso Supreme 97 be ok - or should i take things easy?

Oh i have a MY99 - no mods apart from back box and filter - no re-map at all

Cheers

should be just fine, esso supreme is my preferred tipple (and for the car) as it is just so consistent. I had my car mapped on it.
Before I had my car mapped (92 wrx) I did often use morrisons unleaded (95ron)without any adverse effects (if I needed to fill up nr work)
If your not sure then take it easy until you put optimax in but imho you should be fine.

OMG

Your MAF will be blown now .... the ECU will need a £600 re-map and the piston will melt!!

these threads still amaze me!!!!!!

if it is a UK car it is mapped for UK fuel so no matter what UK commercial unleaded you put in it it will be ok so stop flapping.

i'm gonna be a bit stuck once i start me new local job- 70 miles a day down to 8 ... BUT No shell garages in sight (or even BP ones), mind you i'll only need to fill up every other weekend, so i'll be planning weekend activities for me 'n' the bird that happen to be near shell garages.

still should have plenty of spare petrol cash to buy a decent stash of millers boosters

97 Ron -especially Esso, which is highly regarded- is FINE mate, unless you've had it mapped for SUL it will run on 95, if necessary (albeit not as well).

If you had a history like me for disctruction of engines then you would flap, am i being over paranoid - perhaps, but i'd rather be over cautious than be hit with a 3k engine rebuild, and yes i am a fairly new Scooby owner!

Its ok mate, when I first got mine, I felt like I should be replacing the oil, plugs, MAF, before every journey, adding SUL and OB all the time, only driving it during cool ambient temps...... wrapping it in cotton wool etc.... You calm down a bit as time passes. Follow these rules and you'll be most unlucky to see anything go wrong with your engine.

-Warm it up
-Cool it down
-Get it serviced properly and on time
-If you will mod, do it carefully, and don't take the cheap fix route
-Don't scrimp on the oil and petrol.
-Don't drive it like a prat- e.g. running the petrol down to vapour and still gunning it to the redline.
-Avoid sustained high speed runs with the TMIC.

That's it. Otherwise, just get on with enjoying it. You'll still be called an SN **** though.

They VERY rarely blow up without a reason mate! Treat it well, and it'll look after you.

Pete it will certainly blow up in any case cos he hasn't put your £15 oil in !!

Esso 97 is one of the better 97 fuels imho, consistent, you needn't be worried and needn't hold back on account of it.

In my UK turbo, it just says keep super unleaded in it (sticker in the fillup flap). I use Esso Supreme, as long as its super, it don't matter. Optimax is only 1 RON above Esso anyway.

That is confusing isn't it! The manual clearly states that a minimum of 95 RON should be used though. Bascailly they will run ok on 95, but prefer 97.

My personal view is that you should ALWAYS use the best fuel and oil you can in a performance car; you get out what you put in.

A friend of mine has had a reddish blue UK MY97 Scoob from new.

He rags it from cold, and generally gives it a hard time, runs it on NUL 95 RON, but does have it serviced on the dot.

Its done about 100k miles now without a single problem, and still going strong.

I think people worry too much on here about petrol types.

Yep, I don't doubt it; these cars aren't quite as fragile as people make them out to be. However, the analogy that springs to mind is that of the person who has been smoking 30 a day from the age of 20, who is now 60. Sure, he may not have developed cancer, but he exposed himself to a higher probability of developing it and for every one of him, there'll be numerous others who weren't so lucky. Also, he WOULD have been fitter and more healthy had he cut out the ****. He'll never know though cause he's smoked as long as he can remember and lacks perspective.
