.....resort to dangerous driving?
I have no problem with RS owners at all, I like to have a play with them as long as they are game for it and it doesn't start turning silly or dangerous.
An escort RS Cosworth shot past me in treble figures on an A road (note single carriageway) and I thought I would would have a go and catch up with him once it turned to dual carriageway (about 1/2 mile later).
I caught up quite easily as he had eased off his pace. As soon as I did he slowed right down, so I thought fair enough, he isn't willing to have a run and backed off myself to the point where he disappeared from sight.
About 10/15 minutes later I caught him up on the motorway. In the fast lane with no cars to the side of him he REFUSED to let me past, but I couldn't understand why. This went on for a couple of minutes then he SLAMMED HIS BRAKES ON. FOR NO REASON!!!! I wasn't tailgating him, nor harrassing him and I had nowhere to go, fortunately my brakes stood up to me standing on them and a little shaken, I really backed off realising that a serious accident was going to be caused if this was to continue. He was not only jeopardising his safety as it was obvious he couldn't handle the car's power but mine and everyone else's around him too. And having just got my car repaired NO WAY was I going to let some idiot take it off the road.
I eventually managed to get past him but not after he had tried to a couple of times to swerve at me and run me off the motorway. He then proceeded to chase me and I left the motorway at the nearest exit, parked up and recovered.
RS owners he is a disgrace to your community, I have had plenty of runs with RS cosworths and whenever this has happened we have both acknowledged that our cars "tend" to be evenly matched.
I will not hold this against RS owners but it does make me think twice as to whether to enjoy a run with them or not.
It ended what had been a superb and gentle run in my car as I had taken it up to the Lakes to run it in and build my confidence back up after the two accidents I had been in (one which I was driving and other which I was passenger in).
I will not post his registration as I do not want anything else to come of this, just a warning to you all and to ask is the rivally between us that bad???? I hope not.
I am deeply saddened by this experience.
Michelle.

Michelle,
Sorry to hear about this. I know what it can be like to have a to55er start acting like this. It can really un-nerve you. Did you consider reporting him to the police for dangerous driving? Not sure they could have done anything, but maybe he's done this before and has already been reported. They may take a firmer line with him this time.

Very true, I did consider reporting him, but more than likely with people like that, they are probably likely to turn it around on you.
Maybe I should have........maybe best not to, who knows......

With my pious head on; you play with fire, expect to get burned.
RS Owners have nothing to do with this.
How did you know the car wasn't nicked and he wasn't pi$$ed or high on drugs? If a car passed me doing "3 figures" on an A road, that would be my immediate assumption. From his point of view maybe he didn't want the attentions of some idiot in an Impreza "playing" on a main road while he was twoc-ing.
Hope you get over it, I don't like to see people upset like this and I'm glad you're OK, but picture yourself repeating this tale in a courtroom. Put yourself on the bench/jury listening to it. Imagine the incident being described in your local paper.
Couple of nutters speeding isn't it? An accident waiting to happen.
Take the hint.

Hi
Don't know if this is an RS/Scooby thing or a male/female thing.
When I drive the scooby I don't have any problems but as soon as the other half gets in she seems to attract every idiot under the sun .
Some men just seem to have a thing about ladies in fast cars ,I think they find find being overtaken an afront to their manhood.
Don't let it put you off having fun in the car,but if you get a feeling that someones an idiot its best to back off and let them go.
See ya
Chris

Good point, hadn't taken that into consideration and I was wrong to bring other RS owners into it, my apologies.
The driver did not respond to any other road users in the same way as he did towards me, which to me says the he saw I had an Impreza, or as commented above that I am female and have an Impreza.
I did not in any way provoke him into acting the way he did, I never came close to him.........and one of the reasons I didn't report him is because we were initially exceeding the limit by a small amount whereby he sped up then decided to slam the anchors on, exceeding the speed limit. But with him braking all the time, the speed was soon reduced.
It shook me up for a while as I said before I am getting used to my scooby again after being without it for about 3 months.
Who knows why he did it!!

Chelle it's probably his male pride
(you know some of us can be to55ers like that)
I think he'd think twice if it was a 17 stone fella he was messing with.
The truth is their's alot of roadrage out there by alot of people in lot's of car's, van's, trucks whatever. People just seem to be losing their cool nowadays!
And i hope all rs owner's are nice cos i'm venturing down to the rs owners day at donney in my impreza! So be nice and no messing if you read this cos i will have my impregnated sis in law in the car and any of the above shadyness will result in a good slaping.

Michelle - I get grief regularly from the the rs/nova/saxo/ax boys.. take last night for example, one (ax) came hairin' up behind me in a 30 zone, narrowly missed hitting me, then proceeded to zig zag violently trying to pass me on the one way section of g'ford high street (there isn't room to do with buses parked up like last night!).. He was very sheepish when he pulled along side and I looked at him (i'm not scarey honest)..
I'll be having words with him next time, when my other half isn't in the car.
Basically I let them get on with, don't rise to it etc.. its hard to do sometimes, but they ain't worth it, IMHO. Skum bags the lot of 'em (btw, I mean the idiots that do this, not all owners!).

In a situation like that ,I would reccomend that you remove yourself from it. No pride to loose just a lot of grief to avoid....
I get loads of "Attitudes" hanging off my rear bumper. Ijust let them go past. I find that if you hold them back they tend to undertake and then cut you up as they come back into the fast lane. A recipe for an accident.
There are too many Wacko's and Wierdo's out there.
be Lucky

Michelle,
i agree with Luke on this one. Much as it would be nice to see the guy nicked, you could put yourself in a dodgy situation (either legally or physically) because you rose to the bait.
Let them think that they have "won", and next time try to judge the driver before "pressing on". When driving a Scooby, there is "no contest" most of the time, so why worry?
I had a similar experience on the M42 a few months ago. I wasn't trying to prove anything, but it didn't stop the "kid" in front locking all four wheels in the outside lane to "scare me". Scooby brakes are far more superiour to his calipers, so i just backed off and let the fool go.
Maybe the next time they act stupid, it will be in front on an unmarked Police car!

Who says it has to be unmarked?
A friend of mine was getting grief on his bike from a woman on a motorway, driving so close he couldn't see her numberplate. They passed a marked car, so my friend backed off, she undertook him, swerved back in front, causing him to lock his front brake, and was promptly nicked .

Oh mature - a my car is better than yours quote! I currently have A fiesta RST. It cost me 3K. So would a Scooby worth 3K be better or worse than a Ford? Who cares? Already there are plenty of to55ers with Scoobys and as prices drop more town centre clowns will get them! I had the same experience with a civic about a month ago! Does that make civic owners some kind of anti Frst clan. Ignore all above for novas though!
