Default hi from a newbie

hi everybody have just bought a 99 uk turbo waggon and lovin it. came over from motorbikes so i needed a car with grin factor think iv chose wisely its basickly standard with a baily dump valve and a k+n cone filter . a couple of questions tho .it pulls really strongly then at about 5k it just seams to lose power is this normal ? allso the ferkin dump valve wooshes at the slightest twitch of the throtle even doing 30 mph in 4th gear ie low revs is this normal. allso i have seen a company called rice rockets selling mongoose cat back exhausts on ebay for £280 ish are these exhausts any good performance wise is the price ok. is there any dyno centers for re mapping (is the ecu re mappable) in my area (north east)any tips would be welcome cheers struv

Welcome Struv

This is a great community - not sure about the exhausts - i'm sure some one will give you a run down who has got the same model as you. Also one of the TTS boys should help you out with where the best dyno centre is round your way - just wiat for them to see post. Also there is a meeting in a couple of weeks at nissan - get yourself along there will be plenty of advice for you there

Welcome aboard.

UK turbos develop peak power at 5.5k IIRC, they run out of puff at about 6k.

Loose the dumpvalve (pointless and annoying at your level of tune; the std recirculating one is very good). I wouldn't bother with the cone filter personally as well. The MY99 and 00 have rather sensitive MAF sensors and don't really like induction kits.

Nothing wrong with Mongoose exhausts, but If i were you I'd be looking at an exhaust from the Scooby specialists: Haywood and Scott. There is a group buy on at the moment in the group buy section. If you want a ruumble without being too loud, you might want to consider a Classic design backbox and a decat centre section. That's as far as you can go if you want to remain MOT friendly. The next step is to decat the Downpipe (which would mean that you'd fail an MOT- you'd need to put back the centre cat for the MOT and get the car nice and hot) or get a sports cat DP (Mot friendly, but expensive).

The MY99 car can have its ECU remapped via ECUTEK. Look on here for recommendations. Costs about 550+vat or less in a group buy. Decent full exhaust and remap would see you at anything between 260-280bhp/ft lbs torque.

Best wishes,

NS04

cheers m8 as far as tuning goes i want to keep it simple i had thought about re fitting the oe air box (cone filter makes a noise and it has a slight flat spot just of tickover also when slowing down the revs are taking a while to drop ) do i fit a k+n panel filter or an oe one .also as im on a bit of a budget would i be better off with a de cat exhaust or one from the cat back i dont mind paying the extra for a full de cat system iff it will run ok without a re map at the moment and give better power than stock as far as exhaust noise goes i would like to hear that lovely flat 4 rumble but im not paying all that money just for the sound all advice appreciated
