Thinking of value versus cost versus performance - what are your choices for careful and some fast road use, very little (if any) hard/track use for an 03 WRX:

Please vote above or add any suggestions below. I already have the Goodridge lines, fluid, Pagid RS 4.2.1 pad upgrade etc. Would like to get brakes upgraded pre-power upgrades etc.

For fast road use mate, you're already well set up, save your money! Big brake kits are very nice and are the first track day mod you should probably consider, but for the road, Subaru 4 pots, good pads, good discs, good fluid and hoses are all you're going to need.

Thanks for that - brakes are good but I am sure they could be that bit better but I've always gone down the "improve the driver" route first. Really looking for a half way house option.

Godspeed may be the one, unless I wake up and there's an AP 4 pot pack under my pillow...

Me and several of the Dorset gang have the Godspeed kit, fir the money it's pretty much unbeatable, relatively easy to fit, Ian will do it if you're close enough ti him, i have tracked mine, and have no issues at-all, don't get drilled discs though, they crack no matter who's they are....

If you are not doing track days - then keep the money in your pocket.

If you are - get AP.

If you are doing if for looks, get some brembo covers from ebay.

You should get the brembos under your existing wheels with some spacers. Might be an option til you get bigger wheels.

Want to avoid spacers if I can - I'd rather just fork out straight away for new wheels, otherwise I'd pick up a cheap set of STI wheels, which I don't want really.

For what you want out of the car I would save your cash & maybe try some better performance brake pads at the most.

Depends what you want to use the car for, Fast road use the Brembo's will be up for the job, Track use and fast road use the AP's would be the ideal choice, Ive had experience's with AP 6-pots with 356mm discs and the Gold Brembo's on the STi, And personally I would choose the AP brake conversion,

I paid £1400 for my 6-pots which fit behind my 18s, and I haven’t experienced any brake fade since they where fitted and braking from 120mph on my favourite road to a stand still and you better have your belt on tight.

I only used them on the road at the moment with a bit of spirited driving, but hopefully doing a few track days this year and get my moneys worth out of them.

Brembo's are slightly better then the standard WRX brakes, but to be honest I couldn't justify spending £700, as there only as good as the standard WRX brakes with some decent pads and grooved discs.

What ever choices you go for, either AP's or Brembo's look cool behind your wheels.

the RS 421s are a tiny bit soft IMO, Ive gone for the RS29s and am very pleased with them, they have an extra 200 degree C heat tolerance over the RS421s which does make a difference if you go on track

Not really found that but then again - I am not really pushing it to the death really.

I had gone on the good advice of Alyn from AS Performance. Thanks to that advice the brakes were much improved, and work from cold too, with little dust and wear to the discs.

I'd always vote for AP's but pocket would have voted for the Godspeeds.

As others have said AP's are the buisness for track work and really better to go whole hog and 6pots and 18"'s

I'd get the Grooved with EBC Ceramic reds found hard enough for track work but still worked well cold (Brembo's MY02Sti)

This is my dilema also, got my 03 booked into scoobyclinic to have goodridge hoses, 5.1 fluid and ds2000 pads fitted, was told that this is as good as standard brembo upgrade. opinions may differ. £300 to upgrade a fairly cheep option.

I have the Goodridge hoses (£45) with Ferodo DOT5.1 fluid (£10) and Ferodo DS2000 pads (£90) and on road they have have behaved superbly. Used to get fade on some of the more extreme routes (Hardknott/Strines) but not a thing since. Fade becomes an issue on track (dependent on the track, of course) but usually just as I'm thinking of coming in for a break (4-6 hard laps on Blyton). Had EBC Red Ceramics previously, but not for long as the ******* wore out after just 6k miles May give Pagids or Mintex a go next time.

What's the real world difference between Ferodo DS2000 & 2500's..? (Obviously 2500 are harder/hotter compound)
