Whats the worst that can happen?
I may be temping fate here but what is the worst that can happen if you get caught with a fully de-catted exhaust on the road? I'm presuming some-one must've been caught as there are so many people running them...... I had my cat refitted as the police are usually **** hot around this time of year but its just not the same and i've been lucky so far.

I'd imagine you'd have to go and pass the emissions test at a MOT garage (you should get past by installing the catt'd centre pipe and getting it very hot then quickly taking the test) and then hand the stamped form back at your local police station.
If you want to avoid all this hassle there is a group buy on Hayward and Scott Sports cat downpipes in the group buy section at the moment!! We're trying to get as many together as possible to get the price low.
All the best.

£30 fixed penalty for failing a roadside emissions test (never seen one myself) plus some sort of improvement notice for an MOT emissions test to prove the "fault" has been corrected. All a bit unlikely, too many laws and not much enforcement, unless you do 31 in a 30 limit.

As said, stick it back on. If you do get caught it's just a matter of swapping it over to get emissions test done at an MOT garage, and getting the form stamped.
You can then swap it back over if you are naughty LOL

Havn't seen or heard of anyone having a road side emissions test, the only decat problems are MOT time, and thats an easy swap over or a 5minute hunt for a performance friendly test centre

I got the 14 day rectification notice with my old classic, decatted with a Blitz Nur Spec. Guessing they did'nt like the noise . . or was it the flames
Anyway took it to a friendly MOT station and had the form stamped, sent it off, had no further trouble with it.

It was 91-92 when the requirement changed from non-cat to cat. That was ok with an old ' 93 Clio where you could just about get away with it. But when my 98 WRX's downpipe knackered, I saw the future and realised the days of decats are well and truly over. OK I've never seen a roadside test but it's just the hassle of even having to change the pipe at MOT time. No longer will your friendly MOT man be able to fiddle the results or will you be able to get a bent ticket off a friend of a friend for £50 in the pub.
Just get a sports cat and have done with it. BTW an interesting dodge (and I spent a long time turning this one up) is that any car can run without a cat if it has had a replacement engine from an older model which ran without a cat as standard. It's a genuine loop hole but doesn't work for all cars, because a lot were running cats as standard before the law came in in 91-92.
