Optimax temporarily stopped?!!
Apparently shell have stopped production of optimax for the moment to make up for the loss of normal unleaded due to the hemell disaster.

I hope not because my WRX seems to run best on Opti. I was excited at the prospect of using TESCO's 99 but my car just doesnt like it. I think alot of people are attracted by its (TESCO 99) lower cost. Thats a non-issue with me since I dont pay UK fuel prices.

I am able to monitor my spark advance and knock correction in real time, they always seem to be better with opti in the tank.

Top Gear or Fifth Gear done a comparison of performance fuels recently and Optimax came out tops on HP and torque.
Both my local petrol stations are out of Optimax.
Cheers

I went into my local Shell garage today at Blakelands near Newport Pagnell...
Only to find all the Optimax pumps had the protective plastic thing on the nozzles = no optimax
Then found another Shell garage and filled up with Optimax 89.9p, then the guy behind the counter said we are nearly out of optimax too

Ironic really, just filled up with Optimax in Hemel at my local garage in Hemel, 2 miles from ground zero. No shortage I could see
Also just read the article in Evo, quite mixed really but it did say the driver preferred Optimax even if the figures don't quite add up.

Just to clarify what EVO said: Optimax didn't come out top on power, but was deemed the drivers choice and the reviewers commented that certain cars seem to prefer particular brands e.g. Subaru and Optimax, which seems to resonate with what many say about their cars on here.

Its all crap. There isn't a right or a wrong fuel its just what ever works best in each individual car.
I haven't tried Tesco99 cause we aren't fortunate to have it up here yet.
Having said that, my own car was tuned using Optimax, so would prefer to stick with the fuel it's mapped on.

Optimax has not run out or been stoped.
Shell lost the use of six tankers due to the Buncefield fire and are simply concentrating on delivering normal unleaded & diesel first, hence some garages may run out - mine for one.

4 Shell garages all within a 5 radius of my home (Eastwood, Essex) and all out of opti. None expecting a delivery before the new year.
For the first time in 4 years of Scoobying tonight I ended up putting BP ulti (?) in. I once put Esso in my last car and it didn't like it.
I have a nice thrash down to Ashford in the morning for Eurostar so we'll see if there is any difference.
I'm no expert but I'm guessing you'd need two or three tanks to give a measured comparison. Does your chip re-work itself, is that an urban myth or am I speaking out of my non-techy **** ?

On the plus side there is a Shell in Ashford not far from the station. I may just be in luck if it is open when I get down there round about 6.45am
