Been out of it in Darlington for a few days now (Tanked up Sunday thank god), spoke to the garage manager this morning, she says they're not getting any more deliveries of Optimax until the New year !!!!!!!!!!!

There's no BP garages either round here either, and the only one I know of is in Middlesbrough, and I'm not sure if they sell Ultimate as the maps on the BP site are not working properly.

Most of the local Shell Garages round here have run out of Optimax now. Some have been out for 2 weeks or more.

I hope Optimax has not been stopped

Don't know what I'll run my scooby on otherwise

I've heard a rumour that BP Ultimate is really only 96.5 RON, not the 97 they claim, but remember its only a rumour.

Anyone know what Sainsbury's Super unleaded is like? Thats the only other garage anywhere near me.

That's because V-Power is being introduced in the new year instead. I have that on good authority.

As of 7pm tonight Shell at Ashford still had Opti selling at a very reasonable 92.9p

In my haste to escape Kent and get back to a decent county I forgot to ask how much they had left.

Will still use BP as a reasonable alternative in future.

There's one about 2 miles from me heading out towards Castle Combe on the main A420 towards Bristol. It hasn't got any and they've no idea when they're going to get any. I went to the one near Bath and 2 in Bristol the other day, but no joy.
Looking at the Shell website, I notice than Oz have Optimax and also Optimax Extreme. Perhaps we may be getting it seen as Tesco99 has stolen Shell's thunder by having the highest octane fuel at the UK pumps?http://www.shell.com/home/Framework?..._lhn3_3_0.html

I didn't realise they did Optimax - sure I tried in there some time back and only had normal? Are they not really expensive as well? Oh well I'll have to get a few bottles of octane booster - can't survive the whole christmas without using either scooby and quattro!

They not too bad a price, but it's cheaper in Swindon and Bristol. The one on the way to Bath on the A46 from the M4 is a total rip off.

The problem with Chippenham is that there are only 2 pumps selling it and if there's a race meeting it runs out real quick. It ran out on me twice in one week as I was actually using it, there's bad luck for you.

LOL!

Both the scooby and quattro are sat on the drive with just enough to get to the garage! The anoying thing is I didn't bother to fill up as I was passing - thought I would get some later...

If you see a silver wagon pootling around trying to conserve fuel... that'll be me!

I very much doubt it mate. If they do replace it with Vpower -as one poster suggests- then JDM owners can rejoice as that's 100RON!

This is true, but I have it on good authority, given that I own a Shell Site that the current reason for Optimax shortages is lack of tankers, given the fact that Shell alone lost six at Buncefield.

I've run two Imprezas on 95 octane (couldn't care less where I buy it as long as it's cheap) petrol, one to 93,000 miles and my current one to 72,000 miles and I've never had a problem. Also, when my old one was at 90,000 miles the mechanic doing the service said he couldn't believe how sweet the engine was.
I think people can get a bit too obsessed with octane ratings myself.
