Unhappy

I have owned a W-reg turbo 2000 from new and mine also started to slip out of fith gear when it was 3 years old. Unfortunately for you, it is a common problem with that model. My car was still in warranty when the problem surfaced so I got them to sort it out when they took the engine out for the 45,000 mile cambelt service. I am not very technical when it comes to cars but I'm sure somebody else will be able to give you some more information.

Mark.

Mine has had a gearbox rebuild after 52000 miles, it starts like you describe then you cant select the gear atall, time for a rebuild or a new box, best bet would be to have it looked at by a reputable gearbox specialist.

Common as muck this 5th Gear slipping out thing. There is a bolt that holds 5th gear all nice and in place inside the gearbox , they become lose. Needs to be tightend up , you dont even have to move the gearbox , or strip it , can be done from the front of the gearbox, Ring Subaru and they can do it for bout £190 - 220 I think.

And dont try to hold it in or force the gear back in, as it can wear the syncro's, and you will be paying big money on a new gearbox, Heard that the nut inside can be tightened up to solve the problem.

Hi there! Not wanting to be a pain in the back side but with regards to this post you put up as a reply to my question, would it be at all possible to have a contact telephone number for you in order to discuss this matter further with yourself? (I'm not a stalker or anything crazy like that just need to sort this problem out once and for all. Our local subaru garage are no help with this matter and just want to rip us off!!!!!!

Thanks for your help

Mark
