Default Steering column stalks - can JDM ones be swopped to UK ones

I've got a MY05 JDM STi. I am pleased with it but still get my paws in a muddle periodically because the wash wipe and lighting/indicator stalks are on opposite sides to UK cars.

Can I get the stalks replaced by UK ones ?

I don't know the differences between the JDM and UK functions on each of these stalks - although I think the JDM has a rear wash wipe button which the UK model doesn't.

Perhaps there's another model of Subaru with a rear wash wipe whose 'sticks' could be used ... eg a Forrester ?

Appreciate any input you knowledgable people might have.

Uk ones are on the same side as a JDM.

Not on classic they're not! Mine are the correct (UK) way round.

Jap cars tend to have the indicator and wiper stalks the opposite way round to European cars e.g. Ford, Pugs, BMW etc.

I have had a UK classic, it was the opposite way round to European cars.

I now have a 2003 JDM and that is the opposite way round to European cars but the same way round as UK Jap cars. IYSWIM.

It's been a pain in the *** for me when I was running to cars, always hitting the wipers when wanting to indicate.

MY00 Classic, stalks the same way round as the BMW I had before it and the Chavalier before that and every other European car I've ever driven. Perhaps they put them the right way round on the MY99/00 version?

Surely it only takes a day or two to get used to it ?

Russell ... true ... but I often switch between 1 of 3 cars a number of times a day .. and the scooby is the 'odd one out' with the indicators on the right as opposed to the left, which is what I and my wife are used to.

Whilst I do have a concern that I periodically feel like a prat using the wrong stalk, my concern actually is more one of safety as I'd like to be able to seemlessly signal, wipe the windscreen, put the lights on etc when I want/need to when I am driving and not be distraced by things going to rat sh*t when I've been a plonker and got confused. This is especially true when accelating, overtaking, cornering and/or generally being in proximty to other road users.

Thanks for your other comments people ... but what I really want to know is "Can it be done?"

After I posted the original question I found an old thread in the Technical Forum which seems to suggest that a EU/UK Wagon may have the bits I would need as it has a rear wash wipe. Can anyone confirm ? Remember, I want the indicator on the left to remain consistent with the other cars I drive.

Cheers people.
nb ... Mr Moderator ... if this belongs in the Technical Forum, then please feel free to move.

don't forget the jdm right hand stalk has the light adjustment for the dials - as for can it be done yes - how don't know!

You do get used to it - even with car swapping

You might like to ask about USDM stalks; I believe they have the same illuminated dials as the JDM car. Still no rear wiper though.

Question

I've put a rear wash-wipe on my '98 classic, using a JDM WRX stalk. It fitted on the right like my old one, but had control for the wash/wipe.
