This is only <B>MY</B> take on things......so take everything I say with a salt lick

With that said (to cover all bases)...attack mode on.....

First off, I have to give it up to you all for being so.......reserved. Compared to prices here in the states, what you are paying amounts to rape. Taxes here on gas is high but WTF!! If we had to pay what you are paying to fill up at the pump, I believe that we would have to dust off madame guillotine for a few people. I know, I know......we never used the guillotine, but it made for good visuals.

The truckers had a good idea by shutting down the major motorways. Many people here are like....thats it?! No march on London.....nobody trying to shutdown/block all avenues over the Thames river.....is that all? But then again, we do only get the BBC sanitized version of the news. Bill can't have people here wondering if that situation is in the pipeline for us. Here that would have been too tame for our tastes. I believe that you would have seen something akin to the LA riots, or when the soccer fans rioted in europe. We could do the soccer hooligans proud.

Call me a radical, please , but things will never get better until they come to the brink. I do not advacate violence, most of the time, but things here only change when a) people star5t to die in large numbers that are out of the ordinary (see Ford/Firestone refernce), b) the natives get themselves in a frenzy and threaten the government (see France), c) the petro-terrorists start to loose too much money from the botom line, and are forced to change by the stockholders.

I hope the gas/government (hard to tell them apart sometimes) take note of what is going on over here, and start working to keep prices from skyrocketing. That or they will start to make preparations here for our <I>"Special Branch"</I> to take action.

Sorry for the ramble. I guess I had better head back in the woods to see that my cache claymores are still there

Anyone here think that the BBC does actually sanitise situations like this ? I'd say no personally.

Anyway - guess who just got back from France thinking all this petrol rubbish was behind him ? D'oh !

Well, for that matter, neither are the independant news stations, so what does that tell us? Are they all in cahoots? I don't think so. The word I'm looking for is <B> PARANOIA </B> .Perhaps it's all a scam to hide proof of alien existence on earth..........

Geezer I want a divorce.

John is totally right, the BBC is spouting absolute sh1te. For the first time since I can remember it seems that the Gov is using the BBC.

They were ranting on saying how Police were used to brake the blockades, well a) What blockades, b) The hauliers cheered for the leaving drivers with the tankers and c) Why do you think there were Police escorts in each lorry, and it wasn't for the drivers protection, as early on in the same newscast last nigh the tanker drivers were having chats and merriment with the protesters.

Paranoia my ****, wake up and smell the coffee.

Don't the government hold the media by the short and curlies? D Notices, etc.

Basically they can tell the media not to publicise/comment on specific issues, etc whenever they want.

Sorry, but either the BBC are sanitising or have bad sources of information. For 2 days they had maps of GB showing a shadied area of effected places. Im down in portsmouth, and I can assure you there was little or no fuel left by Monday afternoon. Many, including my local 3 and 2 on the A3 northbound were closed by Monday late afternoon. But according to the BBC, we were not badly effected yet.

I am not paranoid geezer!!

The facts are quite plain to see. There has been no illegal protesting or blockading. The Hauliers have been picnicking the depots, not picketing them.

There were no more tankers going out last night than before as the protestors had always allowed the tankers out without any arguments for essential services.

That is exactly what happened last night, all the tanker drivers had discussed with the protestors the reason they were doing a delivery, they had signs in the front windows saying “essential services only”

The only difference was that we saw pictures of hundreds of police making a very theatrical cordon at the depot gates, its was all a show to make it look like Blair had made a difference, he has not!!

The media are not being honest and are not reporting the facts; they are making statements like breaking the blockade, which is complete nonsense.

We now hear that some of the tankers that had the essential service banners on them filled up petrol stations and not hospitals. You can pull that stunt once; the next time will probably get ugly.

I bet that if all the football games were called off due to the fuel shortage things would be different! If it were still football season.

Does anyone remember 'The Battle of the Beanfields'? Well this was the situation where the Gov made sure that news footage from both ITV and BBC was supressed for over four years. This was discussed on the Channel 4 programe entitled 'The Battle of the Beanfields'. Why was it supressed? Its was supressed because the footage showed Police attacking a pregnant woman (hitting her on the head), pulling people out of broken vehicle windows (which the Police first smashed), herding people into corners then batton charging them (even though they were not resisting) etc, etc.

Yes, the totally impartial BBC, my ****.

Yeah, I hear you say, but they were only smelly travellers....

Well, I cant remember where I heard this tale, but it went something like this, 'its the travellers today, the bikers tommorow, the off-roaders next week, the truckers next month and the car drivers, well we'll wait and see how the others react......

How we all laughed when the bikers had all the punitive laws flung at them, as we do when any other minority was f***ed over by HM Gov, but now that its happening to all of US, well its too late now. If we had showed solidarity for all just causes, rather than waiting until we were ALL stiffed, then this and other Governments might have thought twice.

We have only ourselves to balme.

Jye (thank **** me ol bike runs on LRP)

B-cause Fat ones take longer to Burn..

Apart from that - can I ask a question??

How do you get on your own wick??

OK - Back to the subject - I reckon the reason Americans can afford to blaze up about issues that affect them is because a President has to please the people if he want's to stay in power (which they often do right?)
Butt - Our government PM doesn't give a to$$ because the people can either take it or leave it - if they're not happy he'd rather slit his own throat than try and stick around...

Anyone got any updates on the actual situation - I've seen the list (looks nationwide to me) but I dunno what's happening on the actual street...

Yes, it costs over £100 pounds a year to own a colour television. It pays for the BBC and is the reason we have two national TV channels, five national and a dozen regional stations that don't carry any adverts.

Personally, I'd rather have the adverts.

206GTIBrudda,
SHouldn't that be the other way round? An American President can only get elected for 2 terms, so in his second term, it doesn't matter what he does because he's out next time! As the Tories proved, we can vote the tw@ts in again and again!!!!

Hold on a sec....You pay 100 quid a year to own a TV. What happens if your lic. runs out? Are they gonna bust down the door and confiscate the tele in the name of the queen? I can see it now....on the lamb for having an unregistered tele, hunted for like an animal for dare seeking out free speech, and gratutitous sex and violence. No commercials huh? Then why is it that most of the shows we see here in the states, from Thames Productions anway, are 25 min. long? PBS always seems to have to fill in the time with something.

But the US president has a lot less power than the PM. It is very rare for a Senate , House of Representative and President to be of the same party, so any really extreme legislation gets diluted.

Lovejoy, BBC1 and BBC2 do not have commercials, and are funded by the licence fee. ITV is split into 8 or so regions and are commercial companies funded by advertisments. Channel 4 is owned by the government(not a lot of people know that) and is a commercial company funded by adverts. Channel 5 is indepentant.

With ragard to your licence running out they have a central database of all addresses in the UK, they are informed by stores when you buy or rent a TV (they have no choice) and also have detector vans that can tell where in the house a TV is (living in an apartment is no defence) and what channel you are watching.

Also every room with a separate lock is considered a seperate dwelling and needs a TV licence

If you don't pay the fine there's a pi$$y prison scentence lined up for you.

My wife's just called to say she can't get home from Picadilly - there are no busses running - why? Because they can't get INto the city to begin with.

It was funny - it ain't now. Now I'm pi$$ed at the whole fu**ing thing.
