Lightbulb fuel starvation problem?

need your help you lot

while drifting fast round a big, dry empty roundabout, nailed in 2nd, sudden loss of power, stutter, stutter, back-fire, then full power again!

is this fuel starvation? my pug 205 track car suffers from this, but surely not an 05 wrx...given that we all see pics in evo magazine of scoobs being held sideways for ages by richard meaden with no mention of fuel starvation, i was very suprised when it happened to mine...

my car runs brilliantly otherwise, always optimax etc etc

any ideas? happened to anyone else?

A mate had the same problem in his '03 WRX, after he fitted a henko 255l fuel pump, when he nailed it around bends/roundabouts, the car died, but on straights it was fine. This usually happened when he was down to 1/4 tank, it turned out to be the filter bag (which came with the pump)on the pump was too small, when he replaced it with the original filter bag, it was fine

Yep, have this in my MY00.

Going round roundabout quickly suddenly shuddered and then full power again. Took it to dealer for investigation but they found no problem. HAve since noticed that if the fuel tank is less than quarter full and go gunning round a roundabout I get the stutter!

I think its called a 'feature' of the car :-)

cheers fellas

with regards to above, my car has the original filter bag as it's standard..

do you recon if i keep more fuel in the tank it shouldn't happen?

seems a real shame in a car that is all about hard cornering to suffer from this

keeping more fuel in tank should help, only seem to happen when the tank is a quarter full or so

Had this at a track day, the instructor said that all subaru's do this below 1/4 tank.

Try it and see how it goes mate, it's not ideal, but at least you know that the problem is the pump is cavitating (pumping in air instead of fuel) at low tank levels, if possible, see if there is a difference in filter bags from the 03 WRX to the 05 WRX at a dealer's, or alternatively, buy a Walbro fuel pump kit (around £100)

I can go down to just above empty and the car is fine, but mind you it's a classic with a walbro

yeah, will keep an eye on fuel level from now on...

walbro pump at just £100 seems a good value cure :-)

Its happened to me once, since then I never have below 1/4 tank (or if I do I drive carefully) - it's not something I want to repeat!
