Fuel Light
So the fuel light comes on yesterday, and I tootle into the Shell near my house, been out for a while so i fill up with the engine running then switch the car off when i go to pay. Come back and start up again and the sodding lights still on, and again this morning.
I noticed it stayed on as i was putting the juice in but thought switching off+on would correct it
any ideas ppl ?!

Why have your engine running while filling up? Never known anyone do that before.
Maybe the fuel light can't reset while the engine is running when you tank up. and therefore stays on even after you switched off. Does seem strange though.
Run the car till the fuel light would have come on, switch the car off while filling up and see if that cures it.

This is what I was thinking of doing. hope it works
The car needed a cool down and i pulled straight up to the pump, so i let it cool down whilst i put the petrol in

I'd be inclined to add some Reddex perhaps or similar STP product to 'clean' the tank and see if it cures the problem.

My MY99 needed to have more than a 1/4 of tank of fuel put in (when empty) for the light to clear.
Leaving your engine running while filling up is asking for trouble. If the fuel light comes on while your giving the car some 'beans', drive around for a few minutes off boost. That should give the oil/Turbo plenty of time to cool down.

Isn't there like a big sign telling you to turn your engine off before filling up. Haven't really taken notice myself but surely not the brightest thing to do leaving it running.
As for needing it to cool down, the engine would only be off for 5 minutes before you start it again so there would not be any effect as it wouldn't have a chance to cool!
Still, good luck getting your light back on.
