After removing my bleed valve and having the Link fitted I am very disappointed with its initial performance.
Engine would not maintain tick over once vehicle brought to halt.
This happened on about 30 + occasions!!!
Pick up snatches and where is all this torque gain?
I am one very unhappy chappy tonight.
Returning to fitter tomorrow for fix .

Methinks you have to look at the map there, i've had mine remapped twice by Bob Rawle and although we do get the odd cold starting problem and occasiosional traffic ticking over prob these are easily cured and i've been bliss fully happy with it.

Seriously, I am sorry that your Link isn't up to scratch. Are you using the standard map, or have you had it mapped to your cars specific needs.

It is only when the latter is done that you can really feel the difference.

Get the map checked out, if that is still a problem email me offline.

seriously, I mapped my own Link and it also had the same stalling problem u mentioned.

A quick visit to Guru Rawle's one night and the car
a) went like stink
b) didnt stall
c) improved fuel economy
d) all with a less harsh map than I was using.

I've not heard such a load of bol*ocks from a tuner, in a long time. I'm not surprised you're dissapointed, but this has nothing to do with the Link, blame the mapper.

The Link is not "intellient", and can only do what you tell it to. It will NOT change, or settle down. Even if he's using "lambda on" to compensate for his mapping, it will revert to HIS map each time you stop the car.

It sounds like he's just tried to map row 6(WOT) and if he has, you're in BIG trouble. The entire map needs to be done, and I'd be very careful until it has. Hope you're not planning on any track days.

Whilst the Link is known for having a slightly "surgy" idle (so does the Motec) stalling, is never a problem, if set up correctly.

It really sounds like the guy mapping your car, either has no idea what he's doing, or is too lazy to do it correctly, I suspect both.

Ask him to map it correctly, and if he won't, or can't, find someone who can. Who is the mapper ???.

If you have a copy of the map, and send it to me, I'll tell you what he has, and hasn't done. What car do you have.

Thanks for all your advice guys - It really is appreciated.
The machine as mapped is a bit of a nightmare for "normal " driving - maybe would suit the track but of course that is not practical for everyday driving.
I'm sourcing a 3 port boost solenoid - maybe I'll have to get you over Rannoch after all .

Returned to the Link mapper this morning and was shown how to drive the car as per map.ie high performance!
Not a lot happens below 3000 rpm but pulled all the way to redline.
Max boost 18psi.
Stalling still occuring even after some adjustments made - advised the link is a performance ecu and responds to vigorous driving.
Although not a self learning ecu will settle down after a few days driving .

thats bollox, the guy should map the link as to how the customer drives it normally - go back to him and ask it to be redone.

Rob,

the Link will only do exactly what you tell it to do. It cannot 'settle' down after a few days.

One thing to check - do you have a three port boost solenoid - if not, fit one. The Link works better with it in place.

I appreciate that you are in Oz and we are in soggy Pommie land - however try and get your mapper to understand your needs as a driver they should be able to get it right for you. A mapping session should take about two-three hours of work - ON THE ROAD!

If you are still unhappy then try contacting Possum Bourne in NZ they may be able to help you by pointing you to good Oz mappers - or other happy Link customers near where you are. There are a lot of successful DIY mappers out there, such as Lee, Pat and Mark here in the UK.

Surely the other option is if one of the very friendly self mappers here could provide him with a decent 'base' map, then at least he could get the 'mapper' to input that and it would be better than what he has currently.

There is a caution in one of us sending a map to Rob as his car set up is clearly different - and I think most of ours, except for Lee - are based on three port solenoid which makes boost control a little easier.

if continue to have difficulty then send Mark, or myself a copy of your map. Also try the WRX BBS, there must be plenty of enthusiasts there too - even if it only to find someone local to help you beat up the tuner.

As a post script I have observed that within 2 days my exhaust has a black sooty deposit-indicating a rich a/f ratio.
Previously the end pipe remained soot free - maybe a symptom of dangerously lean a/f?
Unfortunately do not have the map at hand , but will obtain from mapper tomorrow.

do you have the lambda and knock links installed ? what model year and type is your car?. with the lambda link and knock link you can keep an eye on things until you get it sorted.

I have had a link installed today, by the main man Bob Rawle. From what I can tell so far, Idle is a bit erratic but as its day one, so I shall find out the complete details so that I can tell Bob. Performance really picks up at about 2800 rpm. Boosting to about 17 psi, feels like its going to be fun until I get used to that, then I can see a bigger turbo, 3 inch ONE piece exhaust. And a re-map.

This is my first day of driving with a link installed, my friend that came along for the day, also stated that it pulled a lot better once into the power band.

People, whilst also wishing to offer our Oz Linker every help be careful in what you send as his car may well be very different to yours.

RobJenks ... if you would like to mail me your map and full car details including all mods however minor I will also endeavour to offer some advice .. be aware that there is no stock solution ... each car is very different indeed.

All the objective advice I have received has been well received.
Unfortunately I not been able to retrieve the MAP yet-But have detected a significant improvement since getting a tankful of ULTIMATE 98.
I have become more skillful in maintaing the engine's momentum once committed to a halt and have realised the potential of the LINK once 4000 rpm has been exceeded.
A manic approach seems to get the best out of the REX now!

Please heed Bob advice.... Aussie mapping would be V different to the Uk particularly in Perth..

I suggest you give Bob your EXACT setup to give you an inital map and then find another *quote* local expert *unquote*

Adjustment of zone 17 has cured the problem.
Very happy now .
