Smile Looking at Buying an Impreza....

Hi all,

I will apologise now for the newbie question - i have looked through the boards, but i am unable to find anything in regards to my question.

Basically, im going to be looking at buying an impreza come october this year - but i simply am lost with the amount of variations that are avaliable, so my knowledge is quite limited.

I will be looking at an STI (import) - classic shape, and have approx 6k to spend, but want to get the best car for my money.

I really want to know specifications, for exaple the STI version one has this that and that, and STI ver 2 has etc etc... because i am aware they have gone through several generations of changes. Performance figures would also be handy, as i have been told the bhp also adjust with each variant..

Thanks again for all help given.

Chris.

p.s. sorry for the long question which u probably get every week!

Fill thy boots, lad. I know there are no prices on there, but your 6 grand should certainly procure one of the early to mid age ones.

May I respectfully direct your attention to the insurance costs, which you'll need to budget for as it'll be steep even if you're over 30 and have good NCB. Also do your homework on running costs especially for imports as you'll need to run them on SUL AND octane booster. You must not cut corners with looking after these cars, or they will hurt you (financially speaking) badly! Do not end up paying the price for someone else's negligence!

ok, so im assuming the "quoted" figure for all imported verisons of STI is 276bhp - or am i wrong?

"In Japan, home of Subaru Impreza, the standard model is known as the WRX (not to be confused with the Australian WRX). Most of the current 2 and 4 door models produce 280 PS (276 BHP), on Japanese 100 RON super unleaded fuel, and between 240 to 260 lb ft of torque"

Or is this only relevant for the new STIs???

- Am i correct in saying the the STIs have uprated brakes, stiffer suspension, intercooler spray, close ratio gearboxs, where as the WRX do not??

yes - i have checked insurance, and by no means cheap for me (£1450), but i will be using the car 3 times a week - 4 tops...

mainly at weekends, and twice for work........

maximum of 150 miles a week....

i have justified running costs "i think" - its now simply making the right choice to what version to get...

The later WRXs make the same as the earlier STIs. Later STIs and the typer R and RAs are supposed to be 300, aren't they?

The Type R I've just purchased was advertised as being completely standard and with 300 horses, though that might be measured in PS rather than BHP.

I don't think you ever will gwt to know all the variants, and anyway, it would send you mad trying. Most info is on that link I gave you. Type Rs and RAs have a low ratio 'box, that's one of the main differences.
