Wouldn't touch it with a bargepole personally but it's your car!
Could be absolutely legit but the clue is in their first question - most types of cheque scam almost always start with the "buyer" asking the seller what their "bottom/final price" is!

All.

The email was intercepted by my email system; it sends an automatic email to all new email addresses that arrive requesting they confirm that they exist ie to check that a real person has sent it rather than a computer. No reply as yet to the automatic email ... surprise, surprise!

Has anyone on here ever replied to such a request? If so, what happened?

Some people do, and they lose their car. Just ignore it, or if you feel so inclined, forward it to the police. Just whatever you do, don't even consider going through with the 'deal'.

Andy.

Don't worry I saw it as a scam straight away! Just curious as to what a reply would lead to?

What would a reply lead to? Hassle, probably. Somehow I don't rate your chances of meeting a lifetime pen pal

This scam has been going on for a good while now and yes a few people have fallen for it. What happens is, they send you a bankers draft, which seems legit, and the bank also thinks it is legit. So you release the car to their shipping agents. Then all of a sudden, the bank relises the draft is a fake, and you have to cough up the money!! So you now have no car and even less money.

DMC.

Fake? Does that mean it's stolen or a copy? Surely when you pay them in to the Bank the Bank must know if they are fake or stolen?

By the way, I'd never accept a cheque re payment for a car but probably would take a Bankers Draft. Best payment method IMHO is a direct transfer of cash from one Account to another. That's how the last 3 cars have been paid for when sold by me.
