Default Sti UK 2003 Vs Sti UK 2002 Bug Eye

Hi,

Does anybody have the performance stats for a Type UK Standard Sti 2003?

I'm finally closing in on my Scooby and was pretty much set on a 02/52 Bug Eye Sti with PPP. However, the insurance is putting me off a wee bit and am now thinking of getting a newer standard Sti ie 2003 instead. Is the standard 2003 sti any better performance wise than the standard bug eye in respect to BHP or 0-60?

Appreciate any info.

No difference at all, except the 03 is easier to drive as the power band is smoother and no so off and on like the 02.

When you say the power band is smoother do you mean that there's more oooomph at lower revs instead of waiting for the magic 4000 mark?

Watch out for the off/on characteristics of the 02STI. I found it VERY hard to live with and it is uncomfortable for passengers. Make sure you have a good test drive before you buy a std one.

The PPP changes it in to a completely different car.

scg, thats exactly what I mean, although the 03's still is'nt perfect and really needs the PPP to complete it.

I agree with that. Just Had the PPP on a '03' STi Blobeye done last week. It surprises you on how much power it's now releases. And Now I can accelerate nicely in 6th Gear.

So basically, whichever one you get, you'll be wanting the PPP! Personally I quite like the wait for it then Whoaaaaa! turbo characteristics! But if you can have that and some meaningful grunt down at the bottom end then that's nice!

You'll pick up a Bugeye for less, as many weren't sold on the looks (although I thought it looked good in Sti guise) Just be aware that you'll need to specify the 'prodrive style' one to get the big wing etc....

All the best.

Ive posted this recently, but I wouldn't touch a PPP after seeing one on the rollers coming out a lot under power. The comapny in question have seen this on many PPP STi's... TEK3 all the way Or WRC tech do a big power upgrade and a warranty

Was the car healthy though, Mark?

Are that WRC tech company doing upgrades for the classic yet?

Best,

Is it harder to get insurance with the TEK3 rather than the PPP?

Yes, AFR's and boost appeared to be fine. They did say the PPP's never made the power on their rollers - which seemed accurate, and not fairy tale like some The Dyno Dynamics type do seem to becoming more popular too. I asked about this on 22b.com and where the PPP is developed on other rollers, it proabably is making the power, but maybe not real power

I imagine the insurance wouldn't be too bad, and there is always the choice of whether you actually tell them In effect the PPP is a TEK remap, as its the same process / equipment they use. You could just insure it as a PPP maybe?

Not sure on classic upgrades - they do list MY99/00 cars on their site and have ECUTEK facility.

Yeah, the page was under construction last time I visited. I guess its just a question of who they'd use for the maping - warrantly is of little consolation if you're not happy with the map. I'm sure it'll be someone very good though.

At the moment I'd want mine to go to a certain Mr Rawle owning to his reputation.

They do their own mapping, but totally agree on Bob - I dont hink anyone has ever had an issue with his work - I certainly didn't.

You called A-Plan for an insurance quote yet?

If it wasn't for their decent quote I would not have bought my WRX 03STI PPP!!!

Thanks for all the comments on here. The deal is almost done! Going for a 02 Bug Eye with PPP (knew I'd get talked into it ). I test drove it almost 4 months ago now and it was fantastic, it's been sat there for 6 months in the dealers and it'd be rude not to give it a good home.

Look out for some pics in a weeks time all being well. Thanks again guys.
