Default Spec C boot

Anyone know if the spec C boot is different to an 05STI boot - ie made of a lighter material?

AFAIK its just bare metal ie. no sound deadening materials, etc. Also I think the rear windshield is made from thinner glass

Thanks for the reply but what I mean is...is the boot lid itself made of the same material or not.

Cheers

The STi bootlid is made from steel whereas the Spec C one is aluminium. This applies to MY05 Spec C's not sure about earlier models.

[edit] this works out at approximately a third of the weight of the steel item

Have you tried Litchfield Imports ? I know they import Spec C's so they may be able to get hold of parts for them as well.

I'd also be interested in this - also how many holes do they come with

I want one with just the four holes for the WRX spoiler bolts ie with no locator grommets or hole for the stop light wiring..alumininum would be a big bonus at the right price !

I think the introduction of the aluminium bootlid was on the MY05 model. Check it with a magnet when you get it (aluminium being non-ferrous of course !)

You can have the light weight boot off my Spec-C if you want

Shaun.

Most MY05 Spec C's come with a WRX-style low-rise spoiler as standard so I'd guess it would be okay ... I'll check when I get home tonight.

In which case it wouldn't be any good - it'll have the four holes for the bolts, plus 2 holes with plastic grommets to locate the spoiler plus a hole for the stop light wire. T

The Spec C Carbon Fibre spoiler option looks like it has a long single foot on each side which uses the 4 bolt holes and covers up the rest but I have an S202 spoiler which has 2 small feet on each side.

Cheers

I'm sure the 03 sti and WRX have steel boots/Trunks, will try a fridge magnet on it tonight.

My Disneyland fridge magnet sticks, that's confirmed that.

Are you sure you still have the ali bootlid as I thought you had a high level spoiler which the weight of would buckle it.?????

05 WRX must be steel, magnet attracted (just about). However, as stated, it's very light..!

Jason
Its very light because the tension bar is matched to the weight of the lid to make it easier to open, anyone who has fitted a high level spoiler to a WRX lid will know how heavy the lid becomes.

Cheers - there's definately a fifth one tho where the cable for the stop light goes through - you can see it on the right. And if it's like the normal WRX there is 2 blue plastic grommets in holes which are revealed once the spoiler is off..
As it happens there are some pics in the gallery at the moment from a guy who has just fitted a DRM spoiler..

Just for info - the 05 model STI must be steel as the magnet sticks.
