Question

I was speaking to a sales person at a franchise in Worcester today and when I asked her about the launch of the new impreza she informed me that following the release of the photos of the new car and the general negative response that the new car might not be with us until the end of 2001 or even 2002.
Can any one confirm whether this is true or not?

Question

Won't the factory in Japan have started to start building new cars yet or at least tooling up for the new car?

I wouldn't have thought it would be financially feasible to produce two different models of the same car at the same time?

Could be wrong (as usuall!).

Chris.

Unhappy

Agree...they are tooled up to manufacture.

Might be in line for a record early facelift, but to my eye the lines are flawed. They can't change that chiselled slab of a waistline.

I daresay we'll all get used to it. And any that don't will waive the Mk I flag and poke harmless fun at "buy-eye" owners...

Just think; STi owners shoulder to shoulder with P1 owners. Hard to imagine. But the world moves on...

Cool

They already stopped manufacturering the current Impreza,
they are too small to be able to live without only with a Legacy on it's line for a whole year.

Don't forget the Forrester!

And Andy E, we STi and P1 owners are all the same under the skin really

Just getting my own back for 6 months of endless - the RB5 is clearly superior to the STi.....

I had a conversation with a dealer who said that the new shape might be delayed because of the large numbers of cars yet unsold.

Jonathan,

just goes to show there is at least one P1 owner with a sense of humour

How's the WR kit? Just think your mods are probably worth more than my car the way depreciation is going

Talking

Anyone who owns a P1 must have developed a keen sense of humour by now:..

A big price tag, long delivery delays, mixed reviews, suffering the derision of import owners,..

..for a car superceded by a WR variant (thanks, Autocar) before many people had yet clapped eyes on their "standard" car.

So, we dig deeper again - bigger wheels (hehe), further delays (hoho), bigger brakes (tee he), posher seats (snigger), and brighter lights (giggle).

It's hilarious.

Now we can buy tee shirts, leather jackets, and luggage (Oh yes please!) HA HA!

We're all laughing now. Prodrive is laughing very loudly. HA-bloody-HA

In fact the only person who isn't is my bank manager (oh, and my wife, but then she isn't speaking either).

Did you hear the one about the STi owner...

...oh forget it.

Keep smiling

I think Jason H has the right answer, and the new model will miraculously appear once the current stock has moved.

If that means a longish wait then the importers will have a field day and we'll all decide that actually, it doesn't look so ugly after all!
