Default Price to change - what do you think?

Folks,

I've currently got an MY02 UKSTI - The prodrive style version.
The only modification to the car is the PPP.

Now I've been thinking of changing it for a while and talked to my dealer about this a few times and agreed that if he got me a good price for my car I may well trade it in against an MY05 STI.

So, he came back to me yesterday with a price to change of £8,700 or £10,500 with PPP.

So what do you think?

Thanks,

Shaun

OK, I appreciate this question may have been asked hundreds of times before, but I did do a search, and just didn't want to look through them all.

Sell it Privately mate, as dealers rip you off with trade ins. Its where they make the most money (I should know, as I used to be one!). I know the prices for the unloved bug-eye Scooby have plummeted, but you could get abit more for your car than that.

if you think, trading in and pratically losing 10k (or more) over 3 years is a good deal it is your decision. But bear in mind in another 3 years you will lose another 10k.

nothing seems to lose money faster than an impreza at the moment.

and dealers know this so push for a better deal or sell privately.

Sell privately now and drive a banger 'til the '06 comes out, with the rumoured 2.5 <drool> The prices on all 2.0's will surely be hit by the demand for that, much like bugeye prices took a killing when the blobs came out.

Lightbulb Doesn't look too bad.

The AA put depreciation of a £25k car at £3095 per year at 10,000 miles per annum. So £10k from a dealer after 3 years doesn't look too bad.

I thought that most cars were expected to lose approximately 50% of their new value in 3 years

Don't know how accurate this is, but it compounds to 43% depreciation in 3 years.

Urban,

I think that's a very good deal mate. You have to bear in min that Bugeyes are notoriously hard to sell, so you might struggle to even match what your dealer has offered privately, let alone beat it. As ppl have said, you're doing well if you car only loses 50% in 3 years, so 40% depreciation on your STI is really very good mate.

If you look privately, '02 STI's are going for as little as £13.5k, so the £17K+ that the dealer is offering for your car is perfect.

If I were you I'd bite his hand off!

Deal Done!

OK getting a crystal grey MY05 STI with boost guage, sti mats and Subaru mudflaps (not quite sure what colour - probably black).
Probably be here in under 2 weeks.

The deal looks fantastic actually, I didn't think the Bug-Eyes were finding any buyers whatsoever?!

Well done!! ...... but, you are looking at another £10k+ loss over 2/3 years Its only money!

Thought of that too Pete , but after the **** year I had last year you're saying of "Its only money" is exactly how I'm thinking

I was getting private messages earlier, and the chap's dealer couldn't believe the price I'm getting.
But I'm happy with the deal and thats what really counts.

WHAT CAR? states that your STi should be worth 53% after 3 years. But in the new Drive mag they have a supplement buying guide and as an alternative used buy in the £7k - £11k bracket is a 03 GX Impreza on page 16 priced at £10k??????

If truth be known, I believe he has sold my car already or at least had the deal ready to go once I'd made my decision.
