Default Why is my wifes evo 260 so slow compard to my scoob?

As above my UK2000 scoob with basic exhaust, induction,PPP ECU and boost controler set at 1.3 bar does 13.2 1/4 mile times. Surley it's only running around 270 BHP.

Acording to the guy's on the lancer forum the 260 does the 1/4 mile in 14.2 and with the 330BHP WRC-TECH conversion it still only does it in 13.5 ish (no comfirmed figures)

How come the evo dosn't beat my scoob?

too many variables......
your guessing your own cars power
Your taking MLR figures as being gospel
your neglecting the power to weight ratio at the wheels
see above change for torque
what are the gear ratios like with both cars

Have you actually taken both cars out together and tried a bit of a blat down you favourite dual carriageway, you lucky enough to have both, why not subjectively (or as much as possible) test them side by side?

700 odd it's not even run in yet I was just expecting it to do the 1/4 mile around 13.5 standard and 13 with the 330 BHP conversion (well it's 336 to be exact) Anyone got 1/4 mile times in a TSL 333 pack (should be comparable)

no it wont be, thats the point.
power to weight is a good starting point, whats your classic weigh?
whats your wifes lard-assed evo weigh?

Lets say your car has 270 bhp, it will weigh about 1230 kg, giving it a power to weight ratio of 220 bhp/ton.

Your wives Evo weighs 1470 kg, which along with 260 bhp gives it 176 bhp/ton.

A standard '99 or '00 classic scoob has 215 bhp for 174 bhp/ton.

So your car should indeed be quite a bit quicker than your wives, it would need an EVO 340 to beat your power to weight ratio, whereas hers is about the same as a standard classic Scoob.

Wink

I wouldn't recommend your wife drives the Evo like she stole it all the time to get those figures, not unless you've a healthly clutch budget. I get the impression that they are not the strongest part of the car!

Anyway glad you are not comparing the Evo 260 to a bug-eye WRX. I had one of those and frankly it isn't even close as a comparison (even with the PPP on) - handling is in a different league, as is the power once you are up and running (not sure on launching, trying to make the clutch last at least 10,000 miles). Isn't drag striping these missing the point, get it on some twisties and get the 4wd working for you and not against you (in either car)...sorry just not a fan of drag racing or worrying if my car is a tenth of a second faster to 100 than a tarted up Saxo.

I see the Evo as a cheap STI! And now I've de-catted and got a fresh system on I don't think I'd worry if a diesel Golf came up behind me (sorry just been reading a posting in the other marques section of a guy 'beating' a STI in his diesel Golf!).

sorry, but your going to have to modify your train of thought if your going to be accepted on the MLR

I hear ya - I do feel quite inadequate 'cos I'm not running 450bhp with various carbon attached body panels and there is the point that the interior of the Evo rattles far too much for 'real' roads, on a smooth drag strip it'll be quiet.

Ah well, I'm off for a play on the some b roads....

I would think that the main reason is that it's your scoob!!! It's all in the mind mate! If you were the owner of the Evo would you have posted the results of your observations? If you go on an Evo website no doubt there will be a similar thread but in reverse! I had a PPP classic and went to an Evo V No comparison!! The Evo would leave the scoob for dead in any circumstance. At the end of the day both cars are superb motors, and in the real world there is very little that will touch the pair of them. Go for a 100 mile run in both and then make your mind up. The classic is a great car but it is very dated now compared to a brand new Evo or Scoob. IMHO of course.

Well what i am doing....

Next weekend when the weather is better i gonna take video and times of the following cars racing straight line drag strips on private land.

Cars being raced.

My 04 Impreza WRX STi
My mates 04 EVO FQ320
My mates Twin Turbo Supra
My mates HKS Tuned EVO VI

I will post all the videos and all the times that we get on a set length of track and see what cars are performing the best (obviously this wont look at handling)

I am really curious my self as the difference between my STi and my mates FQ320. I in my head always thought the EVOS were a better car, especially with all the top gear races between the two..etc..etc. they always seem to come out just on top

the performance difference is probably down to weight 1235kgs for a classic and arent the 260 around 1400kgs

Hasnt the EVO more transmission loss due to the transfer box? or is this generally considered as negligible?

It's gone over 1.3 bar so I don't know if the fuel cut is raised with the PPP ECU but it's never hit it.

I just can't make up my mind to stick with mine which is all paid for or sell mine and have the evo but be in debt for a while (and it needs modding to give me the grin factor mine does)

I know the brand new evo is a better handling car but if I'm gonna spend money I want something faster not slower.
